A new blood-based lipodomic-enhanced risk score augmenting the Framingham Risk Score (FRS) may be superior to the FRS alone in improving stratification of intermediate-risk patients for primary prevention, according to results of a study published in JACC: https://bit.ly/4bXB0S6 #JACC #CVD #cvPrev

The current 5-tier reporting of transplant center performance is highly volatile and has poor reliability and consistency. Relying on these reports may misinform patients, insurance payers, and transplant regulating agencies. Given the unintended and significant negative consequences that these reports can have, critical revision of these ratings is warranted. In future iterations, it will be important to include ratings that have robust association with prospective candidate outcomes, are more aligned with care delivery, and are less susceptible to random events. https://bit.ly/3zToaa8 #JACCHF #HeartTx #cvPed

The inaugural issue of JACC debuted in 1983, replacing the American Journal of Cardiology as ACC’s official scientific journal. Since then, the journal has grown and evolved to be among the top cardiovascular scientific journals in the world. This month’s Cardiology Magazine “Then and Now” feature pays tribute to past JACC Editors-in-Chief Simon Dack, MD, MACC; William W. Parmley, MD, MACC; Anthony N. DeMaria, MD, MACC; and Valentin Fuster, MD, PhD, MACC, and welcomes new Editor-in-Chief Harlan M. Krumholz, MD, SM, FACC, who assumed his role this month. https://bit.ly/46ctSjk #JACC #CardiologyMag

In a population-based cohort, self-reported consumption of a low-carbohydrate high-fat (LCHF) diet was associated with increased levels of low-density lipoprotein-cholesterol and apolipoprotein B and an increased risk of incident atherosclerotic cardiovascular events. These findings highlight the potential cardiovascular risk of this dietary pattern and suggest that hypercholesterolemia occurring during a LCHF diet should not be assumed to be benign. https://bit.ly/3xTR898 #JACCAdvances #Diet #ASCVD

Assessment of invasive hemodynamic status via right heart catheterization is integral for the treatment of patients with heart failure (HF). Many noninvasive hemodynamic parameters can be measured using echocardiography. This review is a field guide for hemodynamic assessment, troubleshooting, and interpretation for clinicians treating patients with HF: https://bit.ly/3WkpI5N #JACCHF #HeartFailure

Knowledge of the pathophysiology and classification of the tricuspid valve has deepened over the last decade. However, there is a need for more evidence from Asian populations to further refine these treatments and improve patient outcomes. 📢 JACC: Asia is calling for papers on “Asian Population and Experiences with the Tricuspid Valve” to provide a venue for researchers to share their work in the field. A new analysis helps to define the geographic disparities in access to cardiovascular care, finding that 46.3% (1,454) of all U.S. counties, comprising 22 million residents, do not have a practicing cardiologist, and these counties tend to be more rural and socioeconomically disadvantaged, with a greater burden of cardiovascular disease. Of the rural counties, 86.2% did not have a cardiologist. In the other 1,689 counties, on average there were 24 cardiologists, according to the research letter published in #JACC: https://bit.ly/4cRNqf0

An Expert Panel Perspective published in #JACCAdvances proposes best practice recommendations for integrating shared decision-making (SDM) as part of multidisciplinary team-based care delivery. The panel, chaired by Elizabeth M. Perpetua, DNP, ACNP-BC, FACC, outlines operating principles for SDM within a cardiovascular team-based care environment, as well as strategies for implementation that leverage a patient-centered, team-based approach and include clearly defined discussions about choices, goals, values, preferences and final decisions. https://bit.ly/4cNVayU

Nitrates are essential for treating angina pectoris due to their ability to release nitric oxide, causing vascular smooth muscle relaxation. They mainly benefit patients by reducing cardiac workload through peripheral vasodilation and also enhance diagnostic accuracy in coronary imaging. In this new #JACCIMG research letter, the authors studied the effects of sublingual glyceryl trinitrate (800 μg) compared to intracoronary isosorbide dinitrate on epicardial coronary vasodilation: https://bit.ly/4cUuJrb
