For decades, President Biden has been a true friend of the Jewish community and a steadfast supporter of Israel, describing himself as a “Zionist in my heart” and becoming the first sitting U.S. president to visit Israel during wartime in the aftermath of the horrific October 7th attacks. He has left his mark on the Jewish community and for that, Jewish Federations of North America are grateful and wish him luck in the final months of his presidency and in his future. They met with individuals affected by the atrocities of October 7 and organizations working to support them, as well as those supporting refugees and Jewish communities in Europe - witnessing the impact of our Madison community's Israel and overseas allocation dollars at work. Israel Update: Presentation on Mission to Berlin and Israel Tuesday, July 30, at 7:00 pm, on Zoom Join Alan, Lainie, and Jeremy for a special presentation to relaunch our weekly Israel Update to the community. 𝙉𝙤𝙣𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙛𝙞𝙩 𝘽𝙤𝙖𝙧𝙙 𝙎𝙚𝙧𝙫𝙞𝙘𝙚 & 𝙑𝙞𝙧𝙩𝙪𝙤𝙪𝙨 𝙂𝙧𝙤𝙬𝙩𝙝 𝙂𝙪𝙞𝙙𝙚: Since 2015, I’ve had the honor of serving on the Jewish Federation of Madison Board. Later, I joined Exec. Committee, Community Relations Council, and Annual Campaign Committee. This year I’m reprising my role as co-chair (with my friend and neighbor @Elaine Cohen) of our annual Tzedakah campaign where we’re trying to raise at least $1 million to protect and enhance Jewish life and values locally and globally. Nonprofit volunteer leadership is a lot like “work work” in that if you’re dedicated, show some promise and efforts, the powers that be will likely give you new responsibilities and more work. So in 2022, I took the next step in my philanthropic endeavors when I was selected as a member of Jewish Federations of North America (JFNA) National Young Leader Cabinet. I’ve made a lot of great friends, undertaken important initiatives focused on policy advocacy, leveraging comms and grassroots to combat antisemitism and misinformation re Israel’s right to existence and Jewish community needs, especially following the horrific 10/7 massacre. This month I’m starting a one year term joining the JFNA Young Cabinet’s Exec Committee as Public Affairs Co-Chair with my friend and super star advocate Alexa Brown. I love the “virtuous circle” of helping people, strengthening communities, building stretch goals through service all the while expanding my professional network and as some of you saw from my posts this past week, traveling to really interesting places. Whatever your personal, religious, or civic passion, if you have the opportunity to serve on a nonprofit board or committee, jump at it and into it with everything you got. It’ll pay dividends personally and professionally too. The best way to do this: ⬇️⬇️ ▶Write out a list of 2-3 causes and organizations championing issues you care about. ▶Reach out to friends on boards and/or its leaders and let them know about your skills and willingness to help. ▶Be willing to dedicate 5-10+ hours a week aligned to your unique skills. ▶Let your employer / clients know about these efforts so that you can continue to balance your responsibilities. ▶ Discuss parameters with life partners, particularly if any commitments are likely to spill into family time. I'm happy to answer any questions in the comments and if you valued this post, please give it a share + like and follow.
