  • We are thrilled to announce that Madeline Friedman has been hired as the Director of Midrasha Hebrew High School. Maddy is not new to this inspiring teen program of the Jewish Federation of Madison, in partnership with Beth Israel Center, Congregation Shaarei Shamayim, and Temple Beth El, offering Jewish and Hebrew education, a safe space, and time to socialize with peers. She attended Midrasha as a student herself. Last year, she joined the staff, teaching the core curriculum for 10th and 11th grade, Social Justice and Judaism, and the elective Antisemitism in Social Media. A note of introduction from Maddy: "I'm so excited to take over as director of Midrasha. I attended Midrasha in my youth and am excited to return to Madison after finishing school. I attended the University of Mississippi, majoring in Integrated Marketing Communications with a Business minor, and was president of the Hillel for three years. I recently completed my master's degree in Social Media Communications at Dublin City University in Ireland. I wrote my dissertation on Antisemitism on Social Media. I'm spending a month right now in Israel, completing a fellowship on Public Diplomacy and Geopolitics. I'm passionate about Antisemitism and social media. I love cooking, hiking, and yoga." Please join us in welcoming Maddy!

  • Approximately 200 people celebrated the start of summer at our annual Hava Nagila Jewish Community Picnic on Sunday, June 16. They enjoyed games, activities, balloon art, food, giveaways, and cooling off from the heat at the Goodman Aquatic Center. Thank you to our fantastic event volunteers who helped make the fun happen and Glass Nickel Pizza Co. Fitchburg for generously donating half of the delicious pizza ordered!

  • Camp Shalom staff are jumping for joy (and dancing and voguing) in anticipation of our campers arriving and session one beginning on Monday! They have been planning, prepping, and working hard all week to get everything ready for another summer filled with ruach (spirit) and fun at camp. We are so excited! Shabbat Shalom!

  • Jewish Federation of Madison is proud to commemorate #Juneteenth, the day in 1865, when federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, to ensure that all enslaved people knew they had been freed. While Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation on January 1, 1863, the news had yet to reach the enslaved people in Texas. Juneteenth is referred to by the National Museum of African American History & Culture as marking our country's second independence day. While long celebrated in the African American community, this monumental event remains largely unknown to most Americans. On June 17, 2021, President Joe Biden officially signed Juneteenth into law as the 11th federally recognized U.S. holiday. Learn more at https://lnkd.in/g4EX_uUD

  • We had a very special dedication of "Judy Schreiber Way" on Sunday at the Goodman Jewish Community Campus, attended by family, friends, and community members. The dedication fittingly took place during the Hava Nagila Jewish Community Picnic, for which Judy was a co-founder many years ago. Jewish Federation of Madison executive committee board member and dear friend Joel Minkoff gave beautiful opening remarks overviewing Judy's dedicated, extensive, and passionate leadership history with our organization and the Madison Jewish Community. We were honored to have Judy's daughters Beth and Margaret join us to share their thanks and personal stories and perform the big reveal of the sign in memory of their mother. Next time you visit the campus, stop by this perfect spot to celebrate the life and legacy of Judy Schreiber z"l.
