This wide-reaching project seeks to begin addressing the historical erasure of Indigenous culture by arts institutions while creating new practices for museums. The ELEVATE Training Program seeks to address significant health inequities in premature mortality faced by Indigenous communities by equipping a new generation of scholars with specialized training in prevention science and health equity research. ELEVATE scholars will receive training in health equity, multi-level prevention, and methods for design and analysis of multi-level preventative interventions. Training on Indigenous Methodologies will also be provided. The program provides full tuition support, health insurance, and an annual stipend. Register in advanced at https://bit.ly/3MclBmo Dr. Stoor (Pikku-Nilsa Ánde Biehtar) is a clinical psychologist turned suicide prevention worker turned public health researcher. After completing his PhD thesis (2020) on suicide and suicide prevention among Sámi in Nordic countries, Dr. Stoor initiated and coordinates the Lávvuo research group; Sweden’s first university-based health research milieu focusing on Sámi health, at Umeå University. On behalf of the Sámidiggi (the Sámi parliament in Sweden), and in collaboration with the Agency for Public Health in Sweden, Lávvuo implemented a nationwide population-based Sámi public health study in 2021. Supported by this key resource, Lávvuo strives to reach the aim of supporting Sámi health in Sweden through research and education activities, maintaining a community-driven “nothing for us – without us” principle. Ongoing projects focus on impacts of discrimination on Sámi health, impacts of the Covid-19-pandemic on Indigenous communities, traditional food for healthy aging (with Slow food Sápmi), work-related health in reindeer husbandry (with Sámiid Riikasearvi), support-systems for Sámi women exposed to violence (with Niejda) and youth health (with Sáminuorra).

The 7th annual Creative Native Call for Art by the Center for Native American Youth at The Aspen Institute is accepting submissions now through August 15, 2024. The Creative Native Call for Art celebrates a cornerstone of many Indigenous cultures by providing space and support for Indigenous artists, ages 5-24, to showcase their talents. Recognizing the diversity in artistic expression among tribes, all mediums are welcomed in the call. This includes but is not limited to: painting, drawing, pottery, photography, sculpture and traditional works such as beadwork, jewelry, regalia, silversmithing, and carving. This year, submissions should respond to the following prompt: Who or what is the Moon? What does the Moon mean to you? Do you or your community have a special relationship with or stories that can be shared about the Moon? All interpretations are welcome! All artists will be featured in the Creative Native Gallery and have the opportunity to receive national recognition and categorical awards of $300. One artist between the ages of 15 and 24 is also recognized as the grand prize winner, and receives $1,000. Each artist may submit one (1) artwork/piece for the contest with a description of up to 100 words. Artists can submit up to three (3) images for each entry to showcase different angles of the piece. The Department of Psychology at The University of New Mexico (UNM) invites applications for a Clinical Psychologist position at an Assistant Professor level for a full-time, tenure-track appointment. They seek a highly committed, license eligible Psychologist who is determined to contribute to the research and teaching missions in the areas of multicultural and cultural psychology. Successful candidates for this position will be expected to teach and mentor at the undergraduate, graduate and postdoctoral levels. The UNM Department of Psychology, which currently includes 25 tenure-track faculty and 76 Ph.D. students, has internationally recognized research programs. External research grants exceeded $8 million in funding last year. The department has established a Diversity/Multicultural Psychology Emphasis and offers several Diversity/Multicultural services and organizations, including a doctoral student diversity organization, a Cultural Counseling Center, and a Faculty Diversity Committee.
