I often find nonprofits that want to jump directly into writing grants and seeking funding after formation without carefully planning the work. Recently I presented a workshop walking leaders through the logic model that connects the planned work of an organization to the intended results. Part of the success in obtaining funding is understanding the questions and having your plan in place. Once you’ve built your detailed plan, writing ✍️ your narrative is easier. It was amazing watching the lightbulb 💡 come on for nonprofit board leaders during this working session. These sessions are small groups that allow for individual attention and collaboration. While you are out trying to catch the big fish, don't overlook the low hanging fruit in your community grants. Walmart's next grant cycle will open August 1 - October 15. As we continue the journey of this new verification process, keep the next grant submission dates in mind. I'll be back soon to finish up the verification process.

Some grants are a 5-minute application also considered mini grants or low hanging fruit. EASY!!! Right? Walmart is not. It is easy to apply AFTER you set up your account, but you have to get set up. I helped a client set up an account and it took a couple of weeks, but once the account was set, applying was easy. I applied for 15 grants in 10- minutes and they received one grant a couple days after I applied. The beauty of Walmart grants is that they are ongoing, and you can apply for more than one up to 25 in a year. Here is Tip #2 on Walmart's new application and verification process. After creating your Spark Goods account within the Walmart website, you will be led through more verifications that include adding “extra security”. This is important. Click the link and complete. eSign out and then sign back in. rIn the interim, if you do not have a PayPal account you will need to set up a charitable business account to link payments from Walmart.  eKeep going, following each prompt to the next step. Soon you will be asked to add an organization where you can share details via Deed. iIf you are already at that point, complete your nonprofit profile being as detailed as allowed to highlight the work of your organization. Walmart grants are one of the most common grants sought after by nonprofit organizations because the application is so simple. However, the new verification process is causing quite a bit of frustration for many of my clients and maybe for some of you. The additional steps to create an account and get verified are for the security and benefit of the organizations, so you can't be too mad about that. I know many who started the process and quit because they felt it was too time consuming or confusing. Start the process by understanding that it probably will not be completed in one sitting. The system goes through verification levels to ensure that your account is properly set up and verified to receive payments to the correct account. Now, isn't that worth the wait?
