About us

JMG partners with public education and private businesses to offer results-driven solutions to ensure all Maine students graduate, attain post-secondary credentials and pursue meaningful careers. JMG is the only nonprofit in Maine offering a continuum of support to help students transition from middle school through high school graduation, onto post-secondary education through degree attainment and connections to successful career pathways. JMG increases high school graduation rates, college retention, and degree attainment and prepares students for successful careers after graduation by helping them overcome academic, financial, and social barriers. It empowers Maine students and models Maine’s next generation of young leaders, providing them with a toolbox of skills, knowledge and best practices they can use throughout their lives to achieve self-sufficiency, pursue their aspirations and attain success. Each JMG student leaves the classroom with pride, direction, and a clearer sense of what they want out of life and how they are going to achieve it.

For more than 30 years, JMG has been delivering competency-based education. As we look to the future, we are excited to offer a Microcredential Competency Model, the first of its kind in the nation for high school students. To learn more about how we have engaged learners, educators, parents, employers, and institutions of higher education in our co-design process, check out this new blog post from Digital Promise. Digital Promise is a global nonprofit working to expand opportunities for every learner. We are thrilled to have benefited from the leadership and expertise of Digital Promise, as JMG offers microcredentials to support job and career readiness and postsecondary preparation in the form of digital badges that students can publish on professional platforms, complete with metadata that details the issuer, recipient and knowledge and skills represented. We believe students will need these tools to succeed in the new era of AI, and we are committed to ensuring equity of opportunity for all students. Our Microcredential Competency Model enables students to start building their online resumes and professional networks while still in high school, creating a sense of belonging and empowerment, while also showcasing individual skills, talents, and a commitment to learning. https://lnkd.in/eBSBGshW

🎉👏 Celebrating our incredible JMG Team! 🎉👏 It was a night to celebrate all our staff for their unwavering support and commitment to providing meaningful work experiences for more than 4,000 Maine students through the Maine Career Exploration Badge. Our Unum Starting 9, the JMG Specialists who supported the most students to earn the badge, had the honor of throwing out the first pitch at a Portland Sea Dogs game alongside Maine Department of Economic and Community Development Commissioner Heather Johnson. A special appearance by American Idol finalist Julia Gagnon made the night even more spectacular! Thank you to all of our JMG Team for their dedication in achieving this remarkable milestone.
