This month, Jobs for the Future (JFF) recognizes #SummerFridays and will be closed every Friday between Aug. 2 and Aug. 30. This additional time off allows employees to rest and recharge, spend time with family and friends, and help ensure a greater sense of well-being in the workplace.
Recharge & Refocus JFF’s Commitment to Employee Well-Being Dear Friend, As we enjoy our first full month of summer, I’m writing with an important scheduling announcement from Jobs for the Future (JFF): we will be closing this summer every Friday between August 2 and August 30 2024. To encourage our employees to use and enjoy this time, we have asked our team members not to answer emails, produce content, schedule meetings, or do other work-related assignments on these five Fridays. Research shows that companies who commit to employee well-being, including time off, experience higher retention levels, less absenteeism, lower levels of burnout, and higher levels of reported employee satisfaction. We applaud the many organizations that join us in taking these steps to support workers. Please anticipate and accommodate delays in responses during this time. Our employees are prepared to shift any standing meetings and will still be available Monday through Thursday. I’m looking forward to using this opportunity to enjoy time with my family, and recharge after our exciting Horizons summit later this month. Thank you for your understanding and support in our shared commitment to a strong and healthy workforce. Please reach out if you have any questions. Have a great summer, Maria Flynn President & CEO, JFF

Despite significant investments in the earn-and-learn model through federal agencies and key legislation, Multiverse—a leading UK #apprenticeship provider—paused its U.S. registered apprenticeship programs. This raises the question: Is our apprenticeship system too rigid and costly? In the latest Work Shift op-ed, JFF’s Vanessa Bennett highlights the need for increasing public funding, refining success metrics, and streamlining administrative requirements to help ensure that the promise of apprenticeships is fully realized by all employers and workers. Working families across the U.S. are struggling to afford #childcare. Especially in the summer when most schools are closed, working parents and caregivers should face #NoDeadEnds when seeking affordable, enriching, high-quality care for their kids. This month, JFF is breaking down two more policies both parties can agree on to support working parents and #caregivers by making child care more affordable and accessible: The Child Care Availability and Affordability Act and the Early Educators Apprenticeship Act. The Child Care Availability and Affordability Act is a bipartisan bill led by Senator Tim Kaine (D-VA) and Senator Katie Britt (R-AL), while the Early Educators Apprenticeship Act is led by Representative Brett Guthrie (R-KY) and Representative Susan Wild (D-PA).
