"Our findings show that matched donors—available to only a minority of patients with #SickleCellDisease—are no longer required for cure of the disease with allogeneic transplantation," says Robert Brodsky, #JohnsHopkins director of #hematology and study co-leader. "Reduced-intensity haploidentical #BoneMarrowTransplant is a safe, curative therapy suitable for adults with sickle cell disease who also have complications related to their disease, such as organ damage, stroke or pulmonary hypertension, making it a treatment option for many more patients." https://bit.ly/3yjqKWz

Current gene therapies to treat #SickleCellDisease are complex, time-consuming, and are sometimes linked to serious side effects like infertility or blood cancer. To address these challenges, #JohnsHopkins researchers have developed special nanoparticles that can send gene treatment directly to various types of cells in #BoneMarrow to correct the disease-causing mutations. https://bit.ly/4bQYkkt
