Meet our AGC member Daniel DeJoode💡Daniel DeJoode is a Speaker at Don't ADHD Alone. About Me📍 I’m an environmental scientist who works as a consultant for public and private clients for 30 years. I’m started a public speaking endeavor to discuss how to succeed professionally with ADHD, or attention deficit, hyperactivity disorder. I have realized that his ADHD has been both a challenge and an asset that has significantly influenced my career - and my mental health. While ADHD is recognized for impediments to executive function, time management, and achievement of goals, it also provides unique attributes such as hyperfocus, fast learning, curiosity, and willingness to take on new projects. I utilize science, humor, and real-life experiences to explain causes and symptoms of ADHD and offer practical suggestions for managing ADHD and learning new executive function skills. About My Company📍 “Don’t ADHD Alone” is my three word philosophy on how to manage ADHD. Those with ADHD have tremendous talents, skills, capabilities, creativity, and humor. However, the challenges of ADHD, such as inconsistent attention or executive dysfunction hinder their performance and achievements, which can have adverse personal, professional, and psychological costs. I believe understanding ADHD is important because while there are around 5% of adults and 10% of children with ADHD, many of us also live with, work with, or teach someone with ADHD. Better understanding is beneficial all around. My approach in public speaking is to help others critically examine how ADHD affects them, identify needed skills and tools, and, to the extent possible, externalize skills and functions to offset those struggles through the use of tools, coaching, groups, coworking, etc. ADHD affects individuals differently. There is no "one-size fits all" approach or silver bullet tool or medication to effectively manage ADHD and succeed academically and professionally. Therefore, I emphasize principles and themes that can be adopted or applied in each unique situation. Speaker Bio: Over the course of her professional career, Donna worked in higher education as an adjunct instructor, in public service as deputy chief of staff to a governor and chief development officer for a major US city. She led nonprofit organizations including a chamber of commerce, economic development foundation, and an economic & financial security research & advocacy organization. She worked to build community development credit unions and community outreach programs. Donna was a leader in efforts to rebuild the Gulf Coast after the 2005 hurricane season. She has raised awareness of and funding to address some of the most serious matters facing US households including housing insecurity, food insecurity, financial insecurity, and mental health matters. She remains an outspoken advocate in matter of social, racial, gender and economic justice. Donna holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English with Honors in Political Science and two Masters in Political Science and Criminal Justice. She has taken Master Gardening courses in three states and is an RYT-500 registered yoga teacher. A child of the Deep South, Donna has lived in ten different states, covering almost every "region" of the country, and now calls The Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St Paul, Minnesota home. She is mom to humans and rescue pups, mother-in-law, and grandmother. There are those who said she couldn't stick with a job, her interests were too broad and wide ranging, she overthought things and got bored easily. There are those who said she was a nomad and couldn't sit still for long. There was no one who EVER said she might have ADHD. Until 2021. In 2020, Donna chose her path and is now an ICF and PAAC professional certified Business, Career and Life Coach working through an ADHD lens. She works in partnership with individuals mostly diagnosed after childhood at any point in their life or professional journey, many of whom stand at the intersection of neurodivergence and identity, all of whom are looking to make their ADHD journey less rocky.
