When a powerful woman makes history, powerful women show up to support. Last week, Chief Members came together at our Clubhouses across the country to watch Kamala Harris become the first Black and South Asian American woman to accept a major party’s presidential nomination — history in action.

This is for the ones who paved the way, the ones watching what’s possible, and the one ready to shatter the biggest glass ceiling. In 2021, we partnered with National Women's History Museum, Chief member Amani Duncan and her team at BBH Global on a piece that celebrates Kamala Harris's (Harris for President) historic ascendance to Vice President of the United States. Now, as we watch her campaign for the highest office in the country, we honor the many glass-breakers whose shoulders we stand on. Photo: Celeste Sloman Artwork: Simon Berger

It’s clear that — even 4.5 years after COVID necessitated going remote —  businesses are still navigating how to build a healthy work culture around it. Recently, it was reported that newly appointed CEOs Hillary Super of Victoria’s Secret & Co. and Brian Niccol of Starbucks are each retaining their primary residence while leading corporations headquartered out-of-state. This suggests that big corporations believe remote work and leadership can indeed go together.

How did Gen Z’s word of the summer jump from “brat” to “demure” in a single week? While the terms are polar opposites by their dictionary definition, both are rooted in Gen Z’s desire for authenticity and identity. They signal affiliations to other social media users online and offer empowerment by reclaiming words with historically negative connotations. Instead of trying to keep up with the latest lingo and making bids for casual relevancy, the best leaders will look to the heart of what this trend indicates and support Gen Z employees accordingly.
