Joint Office of Energy and Transportation
Government Administration
Accelerating an electrified transportation system that is convenient, reliable, affordable, accessible, and equitable.
About us
The Joint Office of Energy and Transportation was created through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL) to facilitate collaboration between the U.S. Department of Energy and the U.S. Department of Transportation. The Joint Office will align resources and expertise across the two departments toward leveraged outcomes. The office will be a critical component in the implementation of the BIL, providing support and expertise to a multitude of programs that seek to deploy a network of electric vehicle chargers, zero-emission fueling infrastructure, and zero-emission transit and school buses. The scope of the Joint Office will continue to evolve as directed by both departments.

The Joint Office keeps growing! Welcome Mark Simon as a new member of our technical assistance team, focused on CFI and zero-emission freight. 🤝 Team: Technical Assistance 🚚 Focus: CFI and zero-emission freight 🍎 Location: New York, NY 🚇 Preferred transit: NYC subway, the original EV 🎶 Hobbies: Music, travel, photography Over the course of a long and storied career working for the City of New York, Mark founded the alternative fuel program, co-founded the Clean Cities Program, co-founded the Clean Trucks Program and the former CNG taxi program, and built the first 150 kW DC chargers in Manhattan. As Director of EV Policy, he was focused primarily on infrastructure development and rollout but also worked on utility make-ready programs and rate structures that lower the barriers to DC charging. He believes strongly in international collaboration and has hosted delegations to Norway and Sweden on transportation electrification and planned another with a focus on marine electrification. ⚡ Mark spent his undergraduate days in the Midwest at Earlham College in Indiana before completing his MS in 📚 Public Administration/Environmental Policy at NYU. We are so happy to have Mark on the team. Join us in welcoming him!

🌞 Hot enough for you? 💦 Keep your electric bus fleet running smoothly with these tips. 🚍 Hot Weather Impacts on Battery-Electric Transit Buses 🚍 Transit fleets considering integrating battery-electric buses (BEBs) can start by examining the impact of hot weather on BEBs and identifying key factors to optimize bus performance in high temperatures. While BEBs have proven effective in operating under hot weather conditions, elevated temperatures can influence BEB range and overall efficiency. To mitigate these effects, transit fleets should proactively incorporate relevant precautions during the deployment planning process. Powering Chicago explains how we can bring EV charging infrastructure to underserved communities in REjournals: "The transition to EVs and community EV charging involves complex coordination between diverse stakeholders. But maintaining an unwavering focus on equitable access as new infrastructure is planned and funded is absolutely key. Only by working hand-in-hand with communities themselves can we build a convenient, efficient charging network that leaves no one stranded. By bridging charging divides today, we can achieve this goal and realize the full promise of electrified mobility for all." The Joint Office is here to provide technical assistance to all communities building out zero-emission infrastructure! ⚡
