5 Key Use Cases of Harnessing Generative AI for Effective Training and Development In a recent TIME article by Michelle Peng, the transformative potential of generative AI in training and development is explored in depth. As learning agility becomes an essential skill in the modern workplace, both individuals and organizations are increasingly turning to AI to enhance their learning cultures. Generative AI offers innovative solutions for developing learning plans, coaching, and practicing skills through role-playing scenarios. https://lnkd.in/gp_BAud5 Here are 5 key use cases where generative AI is making a significant impact: 1. Curriculum Development AI assists in creating personalized syllabi by summarizing and synthesizing existing content (Image 1), helping L&D leaders repackage materials for specific audiences. For instance, Coursera’s AI-powered Course Builder tool recently cut down a process that typically took 8 weeks to just 2 days, allowing for rapid course development. 2. Skills Practice AI chatbots provide a safe environment to practice essential skills, such as giving feedback or managing crises (Image 2). For instance, a manager can learn how to handle a challenging performance discussion with an employee by using generative AI to practice the conversation and receive feedback in a safe, low-stress environment. 3. AI Tutor and Content Enhancement AI-powered tools help existing courses, videos, and learning materials come alive. For example, AI chatbots can act as a live tutor, providing interactive step-by-step tutorials and real-time Q&A during lessons (Image 3). For example, Infosys has implemented an AI tutor within its internal learning platform, enhancing employee learning experiences by offering instant support. 4. Mentorship and Connection While AI coaching is valuable, human mentorship remains irreplaceable. AI can complement these relationships by identifying potential mentors and generating actionable insights from transcripts of mentoring sessions (Image 4), making human connections more meaningful. 5. Skills Assessment Unlike traditional assessment methods, which often rely on rigid, predefined questions and answer choices, generative AI can engage individuals in dynamic, open-ended, contextually relevant dialogues for a deeper understanding of each individual’s abilities, thoughts, and emotional states, enabling a more accurate evaluation of their strengths and areas for development that is free from human biases or assumptions (Image 5 and Image 6). As generative AI continues to evolve, its role in training and development will become increasingly prominent. By leveraging AI-driven tools, organizations can build resilient and adaptable workforces, positioning themselves at the forefront of innovation in workplace learning. #TrainingAndDevelopment #AIinEducation #GenerativeAI #LearningAgility #WorkplaceLearning #SkillDevelopment

Support Online Learners with a Motivational Chatbot While online learning offers learners with much flexibility and convenience, it is often a lonely journey. Finding motivation to complete online coursework can be a major hurdle. To help motivate students on their learning journey, Prof. Sang Park and his team at University of South Florida created RAMI (Regulatory Advisor for Motivation Inhibition), an AI chatbot designed to help students overcome motivation challenges. https://lnkd.in/ejc7miWb Here’s how RAMI engages students: 1️. RAMI starts by introducing itself and asking for student's name to establish rapport. 2️. RAMI then asks the student to identify what’s holding them back, whether it’s a lack of understanding, perceived irrelevance to career goals, or disinterest in the material. 3️. If a student is unsure of the issue, RAMI provides examples of common motivational struggles to help clarify the challenge. 4️. Once identified, RAMI offers actionable suggestions to help the student move forward. Addressing eight types of motivational issues, RAMI received highly positive feedback during its initial rollout. This chatbot has the potential to evolve into a full-fledged online learning advisor, providing personalized support across a wide range of student life and learning issues. Adopting the Train-the-Trainer Model to Build Sustainable Student Support and How AI Chatbots Can Help A recent Sallie Mae survey reveals a sobering reality: one-quarter of currently enrolled undergraduates have seriously considered dropping out or are at risk of dismissal, citing financial hardship, declining motivation, and mental health challenges. While institutions recognize this dropout crisis, finding the resources—from funding to human capital—to combat it is a daunting task. Over one-third of college and university employees report frequent burnout, making them some of the most overwhelmed workers in any industry. Though outsourcing student support may provide a short-term relief, it often fails to create sustainable impact. Once external partnerships end, so do many of the benefits. Instead, institutions need to develop in-house teams capable of sustaining student support efforts beyond these temporary measures. One powerful solution is the train-the-trainer model. By training a select group of staff to become student success coaches and equipping them to train others, institutions create a self-sustaining loop of knowledge and support that expands over time. This model has already shown remarkable success at multiple universities, significantly improving retention rates (see https://lnkd.in/eu-A75Xj). AI chatbots can further enhance this model in two key ways to expedite the development of in-house capabilities for sustaining student support: • Coaching Assistants: Student success coaches can train AI chatbots to act as coaching assistants, offering 24/7 support and handling routine student inquiries with context-sensitive, personalized responses, allowing coaches to focus on more complex issues (see Images 1-3). • Training Assistants: Student success coaches can teach AI chatbots to become training assistants, offering scenario-based exercises for coaches-in-training, allowing them to practice various student situations and receive real-time feedback to continuously improve their skills (see Images 4-5). By adopting the train-the-trainer model and leveraging AI, institutions can create a proactive, sustainable, human-centered support system that empowers all students—no matter their background or challenges. This shift can drive meaningful, long-term improvements in retention and student success. #StudentSuccess #HigherEd #Retention #TrainTheTrainer #AIChatbots #EdTech #Sustainability

3 Ways to Promote Help-Seeking Behaviors: A Key to Student Success Many institutions offer extensive resources to support students through their educational journey, but students—especially first-gen and low-income—don't always take advantage of them. Asking for help can feel daunting, whether due to embarrassment or simply not knowing where to start. Yet, help-seeking behaviors, like asking instructors or teaching assistants for help with classwork or reaching out to a peer, are strongly linked to both academic and personal success. https://lnkd.in/ebBNtg3F Institutions have a responsibility to promote these behaviors so students can access the support they need from trusted sources. Based on efforts at California State Polytechnic University-Pomona, here are three recommendations to encourage help-seeking: 1️. Increase Advising Capacity Ensure every undergraduate student is assigned a professional academic adviser to guide them through both academic and personal goals, closing gaps in support and making it clear who they can turn to for help. 2️. Provide Support Early and Often Proactively reach out to struggling students with targeted assistance—whether academic referrals, resources, or one-on-one meetings. Early intervention has proven to significantly improve retention rates. 3️. Leverage AI to Increase Accessibility Deploy AI-powered chatbots to offer 24/7 support, providing guidance on everything from advising to campus resources. These chatbots make it easier for students to seek help, boosting engagement and trust. With #JujiStudio, institutions can quickly build proactive AI chatbots that act as personal AI advisors to scale out student advising. These bots monitor student progress, keep them on track, and provide 24/7 support triggered by milestones, student requests, or criteria set by academic advisers. They can also connect students to human staff when needed, enhancing the overall support system. See the images below for examples of how an AI chatbot provides holistic support across various aspects of student life. Investing in help-seeking behaviors is crucial to fostering student success. By leveraging AI, institutions can create an environment where students feel seen, heard, and empowered to confidently navigate their college journey. Why AI Adoption in Healthcare Is Slow and How AI Chatbots Can Overcome Adoption Barriers A recent blog by Ehud Reiter, Professor of Computing Science at University of Aberdeen, sheds light on the slow adoption of AI in healthcare. One of the main reasons is that many current AI solutions are designed to replace healthcare professionals rather than enhance their work. Reiter argues that AI systems that complement and improve existing workflows are more easily integrated and can provide a better return on investment (ROI). Proactive AI chatbots with a human-in-the-loop design, such as those built with #JujiStudio, offer a way to accelerate AI adoption in healthcare while providing greater value. Here’s how: • Augment, Don’t Replace AI chatbots can assist healthcare professionals by managing routine tasks such as scheduling, patient data/insight collection, and responding to common patient inquiries (Image 1). This allows human workers to focus on more complex tasks that require their expertise and empathy. • Human-AI Collaboration By following specific workflows, AI chatbots can handle initial consultations, triage, and deliver curated content while escalating more complex cases to human professionals (Image 2). This boosts efficiency and ensures content accuracy and patient safety. • Personalized Care at Scale AI chatbots can be tailored to meet individual healthcare needs, enabling personalized care at scale. They can monitor patient progress, collect patient insight, and alert healthcare providers when human intervention is necessary, ensuring that real healthcare needs are met without overwhelming staff (Image 3). Embracing AI chatbots that complement human roles allows healthcare systems to overcome adoption barriers, enhance care quality, and address the sector’s practical challenges. #AIinHealthcare #HumanAICollaboration #HealthcareInnovation #AIChatbots #JujiStudio

Clyde sends students check-in messages about once a week on academics, financial wellness, campus engagement and health. If they need help, students can also text Clyde to ask questions or get connected to institutional offices. https://lnkd.in/eMy2AG35 With today's advances in AI, Clyde can do much more beyond just simple periodic check-ins and one-off Q&A. Below are five tasks that a Clyde-like proactive AI chatbot can further enhance student mental health support: 1. Mental Wellness Assessment The chatbot can periodically assess students' mental well-being through casual, open-ended conversations, allowing for early detection of issues (Screenshot 1). 2. Personalized Recommendations Based on the assessment, the chatbot can recommend strategies, exercises, and campus resources to help students manage common stressors (Screenshot 2). 3. Tracking Mental Wellness The chatbot can monitor students' mental wellness over time, offering continuous support and adjustments to their care plans as needed (Screenshot 3). 4. Offering Proactive, Context-Sensitive, Personalized Guidance The chatbot can engage with a student in a true dialog triggered by the student's concern, asking the student's specific situation, offering potential options, helping the student navigate the option and making decision (Screenshot 4). 5. Connecting to Human Support For students in need of more in-depth assistance, the chatbot can seamlessly connect them with dedicated mental wellness counselors on campus (Screenshot 5). By integrating these capabilities, proactive AI chatbots can play a critical role in addressing the complex mental health needs of today's students, providing timely, personalized support that complements existing campus services. #StudentSupport #MentalHealth #AIinEducation #HigherEd #StudentSuccess #ProactiveChatbots #HolisticCare

A Hybrid Approach to AI Tutoring: Merging Pedagogy with AI Flexibility Large language models (LLMs) like GPT-4 hold great potential in education but face significant challenges due to their probabilistic nature, for example, producing inconsistent and sometimes incorrect guidance for students. Hence, LLMs alone are unreliable for creating interactive tutorials. To address these limitations, a paper titled "AutoTutor Meets Large Language Models: A Language Model Tutor with Rich Pedagogy and Guardrails," published by Sankalan Palchowdhury, Vilém Zouhar, and Mrinmaya Sachan from ETH Zürich at the Learning@Scale 2024 conference, proposes a tutoring system that uses a hybrid approach to combine the structured pedagogy of traditional tutoring with the flexibility of LLMs. It retains the structured pedagogy developed by domain experts while leveraging the strengths of LLMs to generate dynamic and adaptive responses, ensuring that the educational process remains consistent, accurate, and effective, addressing the issues of inconsistency and error inherent in using LLMs like GPT-4 alone. In fact, one can rapidly create, deploy, and improve a custom AI tutoring chatbot in #JujiStudio using a similar hybrid human-AI collaboration approach: • Step-by-Step Tutorial Breakdown At creation time, the steps of a tutorial can be automatically generated by AI based on designer instructions and custom data. Designers can review and edit each auto-generated step to ensure accuracy (see Image 1 below). • Structured Tutorial Flow Designers can customize the tutorial flow by adding/removing steps or specifying trigger conditions of any step to align with the desired learning strategy (Image 2). • Adaptive, Context-Aware Responses At run time, AI follows the pre-determined conversation flow to automatically generate adaptive content based on user background and the current context (Image 3). Check out this video on how to create a custom AI tutor in minutes with 100% #NOCODE: https://lnkd.in/ebAX7CRg #AI #EdTech #Learning #HybridLearning #AIinEducation #NoCode #AIChatbots #EducationalTechnology #Tutoring

Embracing a Holistic Approach to Student Support with AI-Powered Solutions Two recent articles from Inside Higher Ed https://lnkd.in/eVd4hKbf and https://lnkd.in/e9KD9UAW highlight the importance of a holistic approach to student support, emphasizing how addressing the entire spectrum of student experiences can significantly enhance their well-being and academic success. A 2024 Student Voice survey reveals that students’ top stressor is balancing school with other priorities, such as work and family responsibilities. At Seattle Central College, a pioneering holistic system offers students centralized counseling for mental health, academic, career, and crisis support. This integrated model helps students navigate their multifaceted lives and cultural identities, fostering an environment of care and belonging. The success of this approach underscores the need for comprehensive student support services that address multiple aspects of students’ lives. As mental health concerns grow, colleges and universities are turning to digital wellness solutions to complement existing services. While digital interventions can't replace in-person counseling, they can significantly enhance holistic support by providing resources outside regular hours and in multiple languages. This ensures more equitable access to care and resources for all students, regardless of their unique needs and circumstances. To truly capitalize on the potential of digital solutions, higher education institutions should consider integrating conversational AI platforms such as #JujiStudio, which enables efficient development of AI chatbot applications with comprehensive student advising capabilities (e.g., career advising and mental wellness counseling in one AI chatbot agent, see images below) to complement current human-staffed services, enabling truly holistic support. AI chatbots can effectively triage student issues, directing them to appropriate resources and providing preventive measures, allowing human staff to focus on more serious cases. If you are an education institution, have you enabled or are considering enabling a holistic approach to student support with an AI component? 3 Advantages of AI-Driven Personality Assessments for Transforming Career Services In a recent article published on Inside Higher Ed, career coach Marta Koonz, PhD, PCC (she/her) discussed the use of personality assessments to guide students in determining the right career path. Dr. Koonz pointed out that academic research has shown following a career path that incorporates both personality and interests leads to success. Understanding personality preferences provides a great foundation for career exploration. https://lnkd.in/edDP4cys While personality assessments do not replace the value of dialogue with an academic adviser, they greatly enhance it. As career development expert Judith Grutter said, “Assessments don’t provide answers, they provide us with tools to ask more meaningful questions.” The data from assessments offer unique perspectives, drawn from a student’s own responses, making them meaningful for both the student and the adviser. Integrating AI chatbots, such as Juji AI Career Assistants, for automated personality assessments without actually taking a test offers several advantages over traditional self-reported assessments: 1. Objectivity Traditional self-reported assessments rely on subjective ratings from students, which can vary significantly in meaning from one person to another. For instance, a rating of 5 on a particular item may be interpreted differently by different individuals. Additionally, assessment items are often designed in isolation, which can lead to a lack of context. For example, using a statement like "I love ballet" to gauge artistic interest may not be suitable for everyone, especially those who have never experienced ballet. 2. Authenticity Students may sometimes distort their self-reported answers due to social desirability biases. However, it is much harder for students to fake their responses when engaging in a natural, open-ended conversation with Juji AI, which auto-infers their career DNA, including strengths, passions, and interests. This approach fosters a more authentic assessment. 3. Accessibility AI chatbots are available 24/7, allowing students to complete assessments at their convenience. This flexibility ensures that all students, regardless of their schedules, can access valuable career guidance. Image 1 below shows an open-ended human-AI conversation for AI to infer a student's personality. Image 2 shows the AI-inferred Big 5 personality from a conversation, and Image 3 shows the AI-inferred Holland Codes (career DNA). Visit Juji's website and chat with Juji’s welcome chatbot to take the personality assessment and uncover your strengths today! #CareerServices #StudentSuccess #AIinEducation #CareerDevelopment #PersonalityAssessment #HigherEd
