We deliver fresh, healthy and affordable food to local businesses in neighborhoods lacking access.
About us
Kanbe’s Markets provides access to fresh, healthy foods in the areas of Kansas City designated by the USDA as a “food desert”, where residents lack consistent access to healthy and affordable food. Our goal is to eliminate food insecurity by providing a distribution model that includes more people, enhances small businesses, and improves communities, one neighborhood at a time.

Last week, we kicked off Kanbe’s Markets Madness, pitting your favorite fruits and vegetables against one to crown one ultimate winner! After hundreds of votes, we’ve now narrowed our bracket down to 32—see below for the results, and make your Round 2 picks here: https://lnkd.in/gBe6T4wn 1. Everyday Favorite Fruits: Don’t ever let anyone tell you that your vote doesn’t count—a contentious match-up between #11 Lime and #6 Lemon came down to A SINGLE VOTE, with Lime moving on. #5 Cherry also fell to #12 Avocado (yes, a pit is a seed!). 2. Tropical Fruits: Are tropical fruits… boring? They were in Round 1. We didn’t see a single upset within this region, with every single #1-8 seed moving onto the second round. 3. Fridge & Pantry Essential Vegetables: We knew we’d see some controversy in this sectional: #12 Spinach toppled #5 Bell Pepper, but #11 Jalapeño couldn’t pull off the upset over #6 Corn. 4. Specialized & Seasonal Vegetable: It was a great time to be a leafy green in two of our Seasonal v. Specialized matchups, as #10 Arugula and #11 Romaine Lettuce knocked off #7 Pumpkin and #6 Yellow Squash. Check out our IG stories or make your Round 2 picks here! Every vote counts.

Kanbe's is lucky to have community partners like Shanna Adamic and the Oracle Health Foundation team. Thanks for visiting the warehouse today—and for supporting our work to improve food justice throughout the region!

I had the opportunity to visit with our friends at Kanbe's Markets to discuss expanding access to fresh, healthy, and affordable food for our neighbors living in food deserts. Maxfield Kaniger and the entire Kanbe's team are leading inspiring work and making #kansascity stronger by redirecting produce from gaps in local supply chains to improve food affordability, education, and access. Today is #GivingTuesday and I want to take this opportunity to tell you about Kanbe's Markets. Kanbe's is solving TWO UGLY TRUTHS: 1. 400,000 Kansas Citians live in a food desert. 2. One-third of all food ends up in a landfill. Kanbe's, led by Maxfield Kaniger, is redirecting over 500,000lbs of food waste back in to the Kansas City community through it's Kanbe's Market corner stores and their composting program. Please consider Kanbe's today - donate here - https://lnkd.in/gxEP9FeE
