This school year, the Kane County ROE is collaborating with the Kane County Government office to share monthly features through its Kane County Connects newsletter. These will cover the efforts and resources the ROE has put forth to advocate for student attendance and achievement. For August, we cover some back to school events as well as the makeup of our Community Outreach and Truancy Prevention Programs as we strive to give students and families momentum to kick off the school year: https://bit.ly/4fR5aJL #K12 #education

About us
The mission of the Kane County Regional Office of Education is to advocate for education, provide leadership, perform regulatory functions, and coordinate state and local services for educators, school districts, and the community. Alternative Program: Part of our Alternative Program division is our Youth Outreach Workers; counselors that assist schools and students with truancy prevention. The Kane County ROE also offers the Equal Chance Program which advocates for homeless student education. This program is administered by the Area One Lead Program and funded by a grant from the Illinois State Board of Education through the McKinney–Vento Homeless Assistance Act of 2001. Our alternative programs department assists with at-risk youth and their families facing atypical circumstances within the school system, whether it be homelessness, truancy, expulsion, or delinquency. As stated by the Illinois State Board of Education, regional offices of education are also responsible for investigating noncompliance within private, homeschool arrangements. Partnerships & Communication: Our biggest annual celebration is our Educator Of The Year Awards Ceremony in which we honor teachers, administrators and support staff. To learn more about our involvement and events with external organizations and our school districts, please subscribe to our semimonthly newsletter and visit us on our social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and LinkedIn. Testing Center: Tests that can be taken at the ROE include the GED, Constitution Test, Paraprofessional Test, and more. Transcripts from testing can be provided upon request.

Earlier this week, staff from regional offices across Illinois joined us for health life safety (HLS) inspector training. ROE staff are tasked with inspecting all school buildings within their coverage area annually to ensure compliance with health and safety standards. These reports are then filed with the Illinois State Board of Education and shared with school districts. The Kane County ROE is proud to be a leader in guiding HLS inspection standards in Illinois, and we thank Geneva High School for allowing us to hold a walkthrough demonstration.
