The heart of community healthcare.
About us
Just as it was formed to do in 1971, KC CARE Health Center (formerly Kansas City CARE Clinic) exists to promote health and wellness by providing quality care, access, research and education to the under-served and all people in our community. Today KC CARE provides health care services in general medicine, HIV prevention and primary care, behavioral health, and dentistry. We accomplish this with a full-time staff of nearly 160 and over 700 volunteers. One of the largest charitable community health clinics in the country, KC CARE Health Center became a Federally Qualified Health Center in 2015. KC CARE is funded through patient payments, insurance reimbursement, donations, grants, special events, United Way, and contributed goods and services. We are located in three urban locations along major bus routes in Kansas City, Missouri. With its current funding, staff and volunteers, KC CARE cares for more than 10,000 clinical patients and touches more than 20,000 through community services. Get involved with KC CARE, and be a part of our mission!

Clinical trials are only successful because of the courage and dedication of people like Richard. At KC CARE, we are incredibly lucky to have individuals like him participating in and supporting community healthcare. Richard, thank you for sharing and a HUGE congratulations on 8 years undetectable.
The very first clinical trial I ever did was at KC CARE Health Center for that little brown pill in my hand. I had just seroconverted and was in need of both medications and support, and KC CARE delivered. I was on that trial for 5 years, and Biktarvy not only got FDA approval, but became a standard of care for newly-diagnosed people living with HIV. Now here I am, 8 years undetectable, helping Gilead investigate a new and exciting medicine, the first capsid inhibitor, lenacapivir. Paired with biktegravir, this 2-drug pill will, if successful, reduce the amount of medication PLWH have in their bodies, as well as open a novel frontier in the search for a cure. I’m thankful to live in a place where I can both access and advance treatment for HIV, and I’m going to keep bragging about the team at KC CARE, specifically Drs. Dietz and Thedinger, and Kelly, Barry, Robinson, and Katey in the Clinical Trials department. They’re a vital part of the network of providers that make KC one of the best cities in the Midwest for PLWH.

This Pride Month, KC Health Collaborative is proud to highlight our member KC CARE Health Center for their dedication to providing essential gender-affirming care to our community. Gender-affirming care is a vital component of health equity, addressing the specific needs of transgender and non-binary individuals to ensure they receive respectful, appropriate, and whole-person medical services. Aligned with their commitment to offer unconditional whole-person care to everyone with the promise of a personalized and affirming experience, KC CARE advances the health and well-being of the LGBTQ+ community. Setting a standard for inclusive healthcare, gender-affirming health services at KC CARE include hormone replacement therapy and whole-person care and support, including primary care services, behavioral health access, chronic disease management, access to affordable medication, testing services, and more. By offering these services, KC CARE helps reduce significant health disparities faced by transgender communities, such as higher rates of behavioral health issues, substance abuse, and suicide. Access to gender-affirming care promotes inclusivity, dignity, and overall well-being for transgender and non-binary individuals, reflecting KC CARE’s commitment to equity in healthcare for all. While Pride Month is coming to an end, acknowledging and advocating for gender-affirming and LGBTQ+ medical care must be a priority all year long. Everyone deserves healthcare that respects their identity. Join KC Health Collaborative and KC CARE Health Center to ensure every BODY, regardless of gender identity, has the opportunity to thrive. Happy Pride! Let’s get to work! - Follow KC Health Collaborative to stay up-to-date about our efforts in fostering health equity and community connections in the Kansas City region. #HappyPride #pridemonth #healthequity #kansascity #genderaffirmingcare
