Where there's good, there's hope.
About us
Hope is more than just a wish for things to change. It’s an expectation for better things to come and a belief that each of us has the ability to make an impact. It takes the strength of a united community to dismantle inequality and enact change for a better tomorrow. Founded in 2018, KC Common Good is addressing the root causes of violence to instill hope and ensure a successful future for every individual in the greater Kansas City region. Our mission is to create an environment where all citizens can live safely and have access to real opportunities. We’re conveners and connectors, bringing together the business community, engaged citizens, community resources and key stakeholders to make an investment in societal change for our common good. We’re intermediaries who believe that the power of many creates more change than the power of a few. We’ve all been touched by violence. It’s time to change mindsets—from a place of apathy to a place of empathy. It’s time to build our community from within. It’s time to extend a hand to lift up the most vulnerable within our communities. Hope inspires change. By wrapping our arms around those who need our support the most, we stand united against violence while we work for good. Because where there’s good, there’s hope.

We’re honored to be a KC Strong Fund recipient for our work with KC-360, a comprehensive, community-based approach to reducing gun violence and violent crimes, strengthening community relations, and increasing access to education and jobs while also implementing responsible justice reforms. Thank you to United Way of Greater Kansas City and each of the 4,000+ donors for their generosity. KC Common Good Board Member and Donnelly College President Msgr. Swetland, “It is such an honor and a joy to see our Donnelly students at Lansing Correctional Facility graduate,” he said. “Many do so with honors, because they dedicate themselves to reading everything and fulfilling all the assignments. We know that this Donnelly education will serve them well as returning citizens and greatly reduces the likelihood of their return to prison.” Donnelly began offering classes at the prison in 2001. Since then, 38 men have earned their college diplomas. Earning a college degree is the most effective means to lower recidivism. Inmates who earn an associate’s degree are around 85% less likely to return to prison, while those who receive a bachelor’s degree are more than 95% less likely to return, according to research conducted by prisonstudiesproject.org.
