Hope Starts Here Detroit is a powerful initiative launched in 2017 to transform early childhood systems in Detroit. This collaboration brings together The W.K. Kellogg Foundation, The Kresge Foundation, M&M Fisher Foundation, various agencies, community organizations and Detroit residents to create a city that prioritizes young children and families. Detroit faces significant challenges: Over 60% of children under five live in poverty, and infant mortality rates are double the national average. Hope Starts Here tackles these issues with a community-driven approach, engaging 18,000 residents and 225 organizations through 125 listening sessions. Guided by Six Imperatives, the initiative focuses on improving health care access, providing high-quality education, creating safe environments, aligning systems and securing funding. This effort has already led to substantial improvements, such as better health care access and increased high-quality early childhood spaces. Together, we can make a difference. Let’s support Detroit’s children and families on their journey to a brighter future. https://wkkf.co/lorf

Ze Min Xiao’s journey highlights the profound impact of belonging. As the founder, president and CEO of the Center for Economic Opportunity and Belonging (BelongInUtah), Xiao's philosophy is clear: It’s not just about meeting basic needs, but about providing opportunities for people to contribute and feel authentic. Her epiphany came early in her career, working as a refugee liaison, where she learned the importance of belonging from a Rwandan genocide survivor. Today, Xiao's center in Utah focuses on bridging opportunity gaps in economic opportunity, education, health and housing. The center serves as a convener, building trust and coalitions to cocreate solutions with communities. For instance, they recently empowered parents to address academic disparities in their children’s schools. Xiao’s leadership journey is supported by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation’s Community Leadership Network and Global Fellows Network, fostering a robust network of leaders dedicated to equity and belonging. https://wkkf.co/mfqw Center for Creative Leadership

The way we understand the world around us is often shaped by the stories we've been told. Stories or narratives that carry racial bias reinforce harmful stereotypes and the false notion that some people are more worthy of a fair shot than others. Let's explore some historical turning points that reveal why narrative change is important to achieving racial healing and equity. https://lnkd.in/gKtcR7tF #RacialEquity #HowWeHeal
