About us
KID is a nationally accredited agency dedicated to the prevention of child abuse, the preservation of the family, and the treatment of abused and neglected children. Founded in 1979, KID started as a shelter for abused and neglected children. During its 43 operational years, KID has grown to include two campuses in Broward County, and a foster care office in Palm Beach County. In 2019, KID acquired Family Central, Inc. (FCI) which provides comprehensive family strengthening, early learning, a child care food program, and educational training services in South Florida. KID offers a well-integrated system of care staffed with clinical professionals who tenaciously strive to encourage, educate, empower, and equip children and families with the proper tools to ensure a safe and strong community. By advancing critical and clinical care to at-risk children and families in need, KID is known as the premier provider of child and family services in South Florida and now serves more than 20,000 children and families annually. KID employees enrich the South Florida community through foster care recruitment/training/support, kinship support, early childhood education/preschool, aftercare/summer camp, adoption support, reunification services, family strengthening, maternal health, a family counseling center, and pediatric dental services in partnership with Nova Southeastern University.

After the Civil War ended, the enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, received word they were liberated by Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation. This day was June 19th, 1865. Every year since 1866, Juneteenth has been celebrated as a commemoration of the end of slavery in the US. Today we had the incredible honor of hosting Dr. Puranik and his beautiful daughter Vandana Puranik back to our campus. Our primary playground is named after the Puranik Family as they were instrumental in the reconstruction and re-surfacing of the play area back in 2018. We updated Dr.Puranik on the fact that over 200 children from our Preschool, After-care & Summer Camp Program and Family Foster Homes utilize this program every single day.
