Google’s robot car is now available to everyone in San Francisco and to waitlisted customers in LA. This expansion comes nearly four years after a similar move in Phoenix, Arizona, where their operation has reportedly been a success, despite a few pesky accidents.    Moving to San Francisco is a significant step in the company's efforts to yassify its autonomous driving technology. Next in Waymo’s sights are airports, which are a huge moneymaker for robotaxis since nearly 20% of all ridehail trips are to catch a flight. Ford Motor Company is seeking a patent that would turn cars into speed-monitoring snitches, snapping photos of speeding drivers and sending detailed reports to the police. What the eff, Ford? You friggin’ narcs.   The system, designed to aid law enforcement, would use built-in sensors and cameras to track and report speeding violations, making it easier for cops to keep roads safe. But not everyone is revved up about the idea—privacy advocates are calling it "dystopian" and “super uncool.”   Ford claims the tech is meant for police vehicles only, but the patent application leaves room for speculation about its potential use in consumer cars. Dear LinkedIn diary, I want to share some reflections on music, motivation, and the people that inspire me. In a recent feature with Utah Business, I shared how I got started in the commercial vehicle space and the journey that led to founding Kingbee Vans. Here, I’d like to expand on that conversation—how dabbling in music as a young man gave me some much-needed perspective. From an early age, music has helped me tap into a range of emotions I couldn’t experience any other way. I learned the guitar and eventually formed a band with a group of guys. We wrote songs, recorded, and even went on tour. Even though we worked well together, and I’m still proud of the stuff we created, over time I realized that we were not the same. These guys were true virtuosos, and I would never be on their level. Whenever I’d sit down to write, whatever I came up with just felt too structured and derivative. Verse, chorus, verse, chorus, bridge, verse, chorus, whatever. Realizing my shortcomings, as painful as it was at the time, was actually a blessing in disguise because it saved me from the life of a struggling artist and put me on the path of entrepreneurship. It forced me to take a hard look inward and identify what I’m actually good at: problem solving. Good entrepreneurs have a vision, but the best ones are able to focus on the problem right in front of them and chip away until they can get to the next place. I told myself, “Everyone wants to be a musician, but only a tiny percentage actually make it, and if you want to be the best, good $#@*^ luck.” I recognized that my skills were better suited to the world of business, where success doesn’t hinge on being the best, just better than the other guys in the industry. And in some industries, that’s a pretty low bar, haha. Transforming the commercial fleet space may not scratch the same creative itch as music, but it does provide two things that drive me the most in life: meaningful relationships and meaningful work—growing a business and helping employees reach their potential. Secondary to that is the reward from seeing everything we can accomplish as a group. I show up to the office between 6:30 and 7:00 am every morning before everyone else, not because I’m the hardest worker but because I love the work. My passion for music lives on as a hobby. Most of my time is wrapped up in being a CEO, husband, and girl dad, but occasionally I’ll get on the turntables and light up a party.
