Today we mourn the loss of Steve Bleifuhs, a longtime member of our Water and Land Resources Division leadership team, who died in a small plane crash. We also celebrate all Steve achieved during his nearly 30-year career at the Department of Natural Resources and Parks as a talented environmental steward and trusted manager. As Division Director Josh Baldi told The Seattle Times: “On the one hand, he was very serious and committed — what you would expect out of a talented professional. But he had this incredible playful streak.” Read the tribute in the Seattle Times: https://lnkd.in/g5f5yZBB Image description: Steve Bleifuhs kneels on a rocky riverbank at Gold Creek in winter. Exciting news for Eastrail enthusiasts! Earlier this week we joined King County Executive Dow Constantine, Bellevue Mayor Lynne Robinson, and other community leaders to celebrate the opening of King County Parks' new trail bridge connecting Eastrail to Sound Transit's Wilburton Station! This 500-foot-long, 16-foot-wide bridge crosses NE 8th Street, one of Bellevue’s busiest streets, ensuring a safe and accessible path for pedestrians and cyclists. It’s not just a bridge – it’s a gateway to history, featuring public artwork that recognizes and honors the legacy of the Japanese American farming community of Bellevue.
