🗣️Another Perfect Location: The World of APL NYC is now open at 75 Prince St. Building this experience has been a tremendous exercise in design, dedication, effort, materiality, and perspective. We searched nearly 2.5 years to find the perfect home for the World of APL in New York. At APL, we are solely focused on being the best and executing everything at the highest level with the most incredible details and quality. This space is the embodiment of what we stand for as a brand and what our customers can expect from us. As the co-founder and co-CEO of APL, balancing creating the grand vision and strategy for execution is my most important role, and that’s exactly what this required. At 75 Prince St., we took over a completely empty, unrefined rectangular space and turned it into an immersive semi-circle that inspires your emotional desire to explore. Our attention to detail and choice of materials truly set the experience apart from anything that has ever been created in retail and establishes the new bar of what’s possible. Everything we built was unconventional, from the artisan laid plaster walls and athletically inspired travertine stadium seating, to the handcrafted, brushed metal APL display boxes and fully diffused lighting that bathes you in its glow from nearly 20 feet above. The 80+ feet of window frontage on one of the most iconic streets in New York lets you peak into The World of APL NYC before you cross the threshold in the front and walk up the stone steps to see the hero moment in the back; the vanity rooms. Color is a defining characteristic of APL and to bring that to life in the physical form, we created 5 hero vanity rooms in the back that are unlike anything you have ever seen. Each one is an incredibly beautiful and rare natural stone that we (led by Ryan Goldston) sourced from all over the world. Trying on shoes has not traditionally been a beautiful experience, and we wanted to change that. The rooms are illuminated by a custom lighting sequence and you sit in a cocoon of rare stone that elevated to over 12 feet high. It’s an experience that words and photos can’t replicate. We chose 5 vanity rooms for the 5 boroughs of New York. Each borough has its own personality and that’s why each room is a different color, pattern, and texture. The beautiful part is that while there are 5 separate boroughs, they all come together to form New York City and that’s why all of our vanity rooms intersect at a specific point. Bringing this vision to life is only possible because of our incredible team at APL, AL-JAWAD PIKE, Schimenti Construction Company Andrew Turf, Aurora and everyone that believed this dream would become a reality. Building is our greatest passion and that applies to everything we touch. It was a great experience collaborating closely with our neighbors, visiting each other's offices, learning and developing together. The whole process from sketching, programming, to knitting was rewarding. We're happy our labor of love is out in the world for others to enjoy!
