It’s often the small things, like showering and eating three meals a day, that we take for granted, and those are the things Juan is looking forward to most as he transitions into his permanent home. The 2024 Homeless Count results show that unsheltered homelessness has decreased and there has been an increase in sheltered homelessness, meaning more people are inside, off the streets, and on their way to permanency. The new LAHSA is making the shifts necessary to improve the rehousing system. We are committed to change and innovation.

Sudden death in a family is a common cause of homelessness. Often, the family members left behind can’t keep up with the bills once the sole provider passes away - that was the case with Arthur. After falling into homelessness due to the passing of his father, he has found hope in the resources that LAHSA and its providers offer. Resources that he remembers didn’t exist for the unhoused community decades ago. LAHSA and its providers are doing more to ensure Angelenos are off the streets and on their way to permanency. Head over to our YouTube to watch more. #WelcomeHome Arthur!

On Thursday, August 1, our CEO, Dr. Adams Kellum, had a productive meeting with the West LA community at the Santa Monica Public Library to address the homelessness crisis and LAHSA’s role in tackling it. We heard a range of important questions and concerns about homelessness prevention, mental health services, and housing costs. Dr. Adams Kellum clarified that LAHSA’s primary focus is on the rehousing system. We understand that these concerns are crucial and are committed to partnering with organizations who focus on them. We value the opportunity to collaborate with the community and will continue to work together towards effective solutions. Be on the lookout for the next Listening Session in your area!
