CONSTRUCTION DEBRIS CLEANUP & OTHER UPDATES | We are starting construction debris cleanup on Monday, Aug. 5. This includes your downed fences. We're reminding our residents that if you haven't separated your garbage, Beryl tree/limbs and Beryl construction debris into separate piles, you need to do so now. We can't pick up a mixed pile. We take each to different places. You might remember this photo. It was originally posted on July 15. We've updated it to remind you what we can't pick up. A few other reminder follow: BAGGED LEAVES | We receive many questions about bagged leaves. Anything in a plastic bag needs to go with household waste. We'll pick it up on your regular trash day. MORE INFO ON BAGGED LEAVES | The crews might open a bag to make sure they are leaves and they might leave them behind. Don't worry. They'll come back for them. They know the bagged leaves are there. SECOND PASS STARTS AUGUST 9 | We will begin our second pass on Aug. 9. We also remind you that we've been able to secure more trucks and crews from Crowder Gulf. With 11 trucks/crews working in Lake Jackson, Crowder crews have completed the first pass much earlier than we expected. For the second pass, Crowder will work from the outer edges of the city to the interior neighborhoods just like they did during the first pass.

WHEN IT STINKS, IT STINKS! | Remember those microbes that start -uh-hum-"releasing gas" when they eat too much debris in the creek? Same thing can happen in our ditches and drains! Keep those leaves and grass out of our neighborhood waterways! #SmellgoodLJ

40 TONS OF LEAVES | We gathered 40 TONS of leaves over the past week. That weighs almost as much as the largest dinosaur that ever lived! Britannica Encyclopedia states the apatosaurus was one of the largest land animals of all time. It weighed roughly 45 tons and measured up to about 75 feet long, including its long neck and tail. (Technically, we probably collected as much as the weight of a teenage apatosaurus.) The post-Beryl debris collection continues. Be patient. If we haven’t gotten to you, we are heading to you soon. We have estimated that the crews will pick up 250,000 cubic yards of green debris. That is roughly the size of an 11-floor building sitting on a football field. #FastTrackLJCleanup #BerylCantStopUs #RestoreLJ

MORE TRUCKS COMING TO PICK UP DEBRIS | Our crews have had six trucks picking up debris, but we have been able to expand to 11 trucks. This unexpected, good news means we hope we will continue to work ahead of schedule collecting the green debris. Be patient. If we haven’t gotten to you, we are heading to you soon. We have estimated that the crews will pick up 250,000 cubic yards of green debris. That is roughly (for illustration purposes) the size of an 11-floor building sitting on a football field. #FastTrackLJCleanup #BerylCantStopUs #RestoreLJ

ONE WEEK DEBRIS CLEANUP STATUS | Crowder Gulf has been picking up debris for one week and they have collected one-third of the green debris within the city. The crews are slowed by the rain, but they continue to work. They are ahead of schedule. This period is called the first pass and it focuses on removing hazardous green debris that impacts community safety. Be patient. If we haven’t gotten to you, we are heading to you soon. We have estimated that the crews will pick up 250,000 cubic yards of green debris. That is roughly (for illustration purposes) the size of an 11-floor building sitting on a football field. We’ll be using this illustration to show you the progress through the city. #FastTrackLJCleanup #BerylCantStopUs #RestoreLJ

GLASS RECYCLING | For the past several months we have quietly been piloting a glass recycling program through Keep Lake Jackson Beautiful. We are accepting bottles and jars of any color with labels on them. We are not collecting any other kind of glass. To participate in this growing recycling program, bring your bottles and jars to the mulch site, 103 Canna Lane, with your proof of residency. If you bring anything other than bottles or jars it will not be recycled. We hope to do more with our drop-off recycling program in the future.
