Helping people with developmental disabilities since 1961.

About us

Founded in 1961 by Bob Terese and Corinne Owen, Lambs Farm was created based on a simple belief: All people should be treated with dignity and respect and people with developmental disabilities can lead meaningful and productive lives. They opened The Lambs, a pet shop on State Street in downtown Chicago, to create work opportunities for people with developmental disabilities, and to demonstrate that they can do a great deal more than most people thought possible at the time. In 1965. W. Clement Stone donated what is now the 72-acre farm with a century old barn that we call home. We now serve 250 participants. Most of them live at Lambs Farm in one of our nine group homes, in our 16-unit apartment building or in our retirement residence. Some participants live in the surrounding community in single family homes owned and operated by Lambs Farm. Other participants live at home with their families but commute to Lambs Farm daily to work and take part in our many programs. Many of our people are employed in the community while many more choose to work at Lambs Farm in a wide array of jobs available to them through our businesses, work center, administration, groundskeeping and more.

Families, friends and staff gathered for our 11th Annual Fun & Fit Family Day on Saturday! A big thank you to the 330+ runners and walkers who joined us on the course, the incredible volunteers for donating their time and our generous 2024 sponsors. All proceeds from this awesome event help our participants have meaningful jobs, learn new skills, compete in Special Olympics, make friends, contribute to the community and create a life full of opportunities for happiness.

Our friends at Cisco went above and beyond yesterday! With a generous donation and many helping hands, this energetic group planted perennials in front of the Health Services building. After landscaping tasks were completed, they headed to the Visitors Center to help prep the runners packets for our big Fun & Fit Family Day! Their productive outing ended with a delicious lunch at the Cafe. We cannot thank them enough for their support!

Thank you, thank you, thank you to our friends at Abbott for supporting the Lambs Farm mission! From lending helping hands at special events to planning volunteering outings, they are amazing supporters. During their most recent visit, they purchased and planted flowers around the campus businesses. We have to say, it looks absolutely beautiful!

Thank you, BeiGene, for visiting and volunteering at Lambs Farm! This group generously donated funds for plants as we continue add more flower power across campus. A few volunteers helped our participant bakers sprinkle a fresh batch of Famous Butter Cookies, and everyone ended the day with a delicious lunch at the Cafe.
