About us
LA’s BEST Afterschool Enrichment Program plays a vital role in the lives of more than 25,000 unique and talented elementary school students who come from neighborhoods with the fewest resources and the greatest needs. Every school day, from the time the school bell rings until 6pm, each LA’s BEST student receives a nutritious meal, help with their homework and the opportunity to participate in a wide array of enrichment activities. LA’s BEST engages children creatively, emotionally, intellectually and physically, empowering them to explore and discover the opportunities in their lives. We inspire and prepare children to create lives full of choices.

We proudly partner with Positive Coaching Alliance to train our coaches and to ensure our Sports Program focuses on safety, sportsmanship, skills-building, social-emotional development, and teamwork for upper-grade elementary school students. We’re creating positive connections through quality experiences and meaningful youth participation!

Happy, Healthy Me is our nutrition education program that incorporates literacy curriculum for lower-grade elementary school students, using engaging children's books to teach important nutrition and physical activity concepts. Through hands-on lessons, kids learn about the five food groups, physical activity, healthy snacks, and the importance of hand-washing!

Our Program engages children intellectually, creatively, physically, and socially through fun activities, academic support, STEM, creative expression, sports, and meaningful relationships with caring adults who live in their communities. We're fostering motivated learners and active contributors to the world around them!

Unleashing Creativity at LA's BEST! Our Creative Mentorship program empowers site staff to bring crafty, imaginative activities to life with our students. Our staff may have a one-day training session with our Arts Department to spark ideas, dive into hands-on activities, and unlock creative potential with homegrown art activities!

This summer, our BEST Fit department partnered with CalFresh to promote healthy practices among students and communities. We visited 44 sites, delivering nutrition lessons with a focus on the "ReThink Your Drink" campaign. Students learned how to identify healthier drink options, empowering them to make better choices for their health and well-being. 🌟🥤 #BESTFit #HealthyLiving #ReThinkYourDrink
