To celebrate Law Day yesterday, the New York State Bar Association honored lawyers who provided extraordinary Pro Bono service over the preceding year. Legal Aid Society of Mid New York, Inc. Managing Attorney & Director of Pro Bono Services Arlene Sanders, Esq., nominated Karen J. McMullen, Esq. and George Murad, Esq. for awards. Attorney McMullen won the award for outstanding service in the Sixth Judicial District. Attorney Murad’s law firm, Murad and Murad, won the statewide award for small law firms. (Left) George C. Murad, Esq. of Murad and Murad, has taken pro bono family law referrals from the Utica Office since the mid-1990s. His law firm specializes in Workers’ Compensation, personal injury, divorce, and family law matters. One fundamental rule of his family-run law firm that’s stood the test of time is to ‘treat every client as if they were our only client. Respect them, show them compassion, and serve them zealously.’ Murad and Murad, PC was founded in 1988 by George and his brother Frederick W. Murad, Esq.; over the past 40 years, Murad and Murad has developed a solid reputation as outstanding attorneys who practice their profession with the highest degree of competency and ethics. George was presented with his award by NYSBA President-Elect Kathleen Sweet. (Right) Karen McMullen, Esq. is a partner and co-chair of the Trusts & Estates and Elder Law practice groups at Levene Gouldin & Thompson, LLP in the Vestal and Ithaca, NY offices. Karen focuses her practice on trusts & estates, elder law, real estate, and municipal law as a member of the Broome County and Tompkins County Bar Associations. She is an active volunteer for pro bono legal clinics and cases, and a frequent speaker for the Broome County Bar Association CLE programs, the current Chair of the Board of AVRE, and volunteers on numerous programs throughout Broome County.
