About us

The Latino Community Center (LCC) empowers, advocates with, and celebrates Latinos in Allegheny County. We envision a Pittsburgh community in which all Latinos are valued and have equal and equitable access to the resources needed to thrive. LCC provides a continuum of support to Latino families in Pittsburgh that includes afterschool and summer school programming for elementary students, college and career readiness programming for high school students, mentoring opportunities for Latino youth with Latino professionals in Pittsburgh, and a downtown Drop-In Center that supports newly arrived or established families with navigating access to basic and critical needs. By advancing and uplifting the Latino community in Pittsburgh, we are working to ensure that Pittsburgh is a welcoming, diverse, and inclusive place for all. Celebrating the successful conclusion of our 2nd year of Learn and Earn Program!  🎉 We’re incredibly proud of the 12 amazing youth who graduated and received their Certificates of Completion. This program continues to shape future leaders by exposing them to valuable opportunities and experiences. We enjoyed inspiring speeches from Rosamaria, Cristina, Emily, and Michelle, and ended the day with a raffle—congratulations to Dylan Ruiz and Darwin Molina for winning! 🎁 Here’s to empowering more young people and celebrating their achievements.

Last week was incredible! Our 10 students completed the Robotics Workshop and learned to program and code with the OSOYOO V2.1 kit for Arduino along with our instructor Iqui Balam Heredia Marín, a PhD student in Robotics at Carnegie Mellon University. 💻🔧 From building their own robots to diving into programming, they did it all! They assembled circuits, programmed sensors, and taught their robots to avoid obstacles by turning right when approaching a wall. A true hands-on STEM experience! 🌟👏

Denysse, our Early Learning Specialist, and Gina, our Education Navigator, accompanied Emmanuel Vargas' family on his big assessment day to enter preschool. 🎉✏️ The Early Childhood team at PPS was well prepared to welcome them. Upon arrival, we completed the necessary paperwork, and then Emmanuel was assessed. It was a quick and smooth process! Emmanuel and his mom, Maria Paula, left very happy, as this was the final step to enroll Emmanuel in school. 🌟🎒

This week was all about fun and learning! We built horses with pool noodles, ran races, and played an exciting soccer match led by Grace Evans. Thanks to Open field for providing the materials and training Grace to coach the match with our students.  To wrap up, we visited the The Clemente Museum and learned about baseball, Roberto Clemente, and Puerto Rican culture. We ended the day coloring and playing together! 🎉🌞

The students designed caps to visualize their future, and we learned about the paths they wish to take to contribute positively to society. 🧢 Additionally, they enjoyed healthy granola bars with peanut butter, dried fruits, and almonds. 🍫 In I AM Black and Yellow, they explored the life of Rachel Carson and created posters to promote environmental conservation. We concluded this activity-filled week with a fun field trip to Elevate Trampoline Park.
