I am thrilled to share my recent experience collaborating with Sue Moreno on an incredible art and storytelling workshop at the The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art Based on the “A layered experience exhibition”, we designed a workshop for participants to explore the many different layers of our identity through the powerful combination of visual art and narrative. Participants delved deep into their personal stories, expressing their unique experiences and perspective a collage work of art. I'm grateful to the The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, and look forward to more collaborations in the future. #Art #Storytelling #Collaboration #NelsonAtkins #Creativity #Identity

In moments big & small, representation matters. Latino building principals have a huge impact on building culture & can uniquely connect with students ; often times en dos idiomas. In this article on schools partnering with parents to fight chronic absentism, NPR shares the story of a school in California with a Latina principal. “At her school, Principal Mayte Ramírez waits outside during morning drop-off, the first face many kids see as they emerge from the bus or idling cars. She flits easily between English and Spanish, which puts many families at ease as more than 80% of the district’s children are Hispanic. It’s not uncommon to hear Ramírez call a child “my heart” or “mi corazón.” When an SUV pulls up a few minutes late, Ramírez finds a little boy in the back seat, folded into a ball of anxiety. He does not want to go to school, and his mother isn’t sure what to do. But Principal Ramírez knows him – and the boy knows her. She opens the rear door, leans all the way in and gently extends her hand to the little boy. “Come and help me, my love,” Ramírez says. The little boy unfolds himself, takes his principal’s hand and steps out of the car.” https://lnkd.in/gUmMGsQa

We are excited to celebrate Iván Ramírez being named a Community Journalism Lab Representative with the The Beacon Kansas City! The 2023 Latino Donor Collaborative U.S. Latinos in Media Report highlights the significant gap in Latino representation in television shows and films, despite the U.S. Latino cohort’s massive cultural and economic influence. With Latinos now constituting nearly 20% of our nation's population and contributing $3.2 trillion to the U.S. GDP annually, it's imperative that our media landscape reflects this dynamic community. Ivan’s work as a CJL Representative is a pivotal step in addressing these disparities. By working to bridge the Latine media representation gap in journalism, Ivan is ensuring that our stories are told and our voices are heard. This is not just a personal achievement, but a victory for the entire community. Yesterday, Ivan led an important listening session with Queer Latinx Youth, discussing local issues in education, health, and politics. The group covered critical topics such as Spanish education for families, transitioning, access to PrEP, third spaces, and honoring queer pillars in our community like Celia Ruiz. . Congratulations, Ivan, and thank you for your commitment to elevating Latinx voices in media! Your work is crucial in shaping a more inclusive and representative future for all. #LatinoRepresentation #CommunityJournalism #QueerLatinxVoices #representationmatters

"It's been a pleasure to attend the UnidosUS (@WeAreUnidosUS) Education Summit. It's encouraging to be in a space where it's understood that representation matters and that Latino students are worthy of quality educational experiences." Founder & CEO Edgar J. Palacios, MBA accompanied Christy Joyce Moreno with Revolución Educativa this week as she served on a panel with National Parents Union. The LEC is committed to increasing Latino teacher representation in the Midwest and beyond; in Kansas City 52,000 Latino students are represented by just 262 Latino teachers. #LatinoTeachers #representation #education #latinoleadership #teacherrepresentation
