An organization of activated business leaders with a commitment to restoring democracy.
About us
The Leadership Now Project is a membership organization of business professionals concerned about the future of our democracy. Traditional models of giving to causes, candidates, and parties are insufficient for the challenges we face. A more strategic approach is required. Leadership Now Project enables its members to strategically engage and invest in politics. We focus on the threats to the fundamentals of democracy that prevent principled leaders and meaningful policy from advancing. Issues including low voter turnout, gerrymandering, campaign finance rules, and a lack of highly qualified candidates are problems that require immediate attention as well as a long-term focus. Members are diverse in their political views, professions, racial and ethnic backgrounds but are united by the belief that galvanized America’s founders, E Pluribus Unum - out of many, one.

Leadership Now Project is included amongst business leaders condemning the attack at former President Trump's rally. Political violence goes against the core values of American democracy, a system that allows us all to express our views without fear of violence, intimidation, or retribution. We must continue to work to restore faith in our democracy and uphold those principles. https://lnkd.in/eJa7tR6A

Following events at the political rally for former President Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania, Leadership Now Project issued the following statement: “Violence has no place in our political process. We unequivocally condemn yesterday’s attack against former President Trump and express our gratitude to the Secret Service for preventing further harm. We mourn the tragic death of a bystander at the event. Political violence goes against the core values of American democracy, a system that allows us all to express our views without fear of violence, intimidation or retribution. We must continue to work to restore faith in our democracy and uphold those principles. This is a time to protect our political process and work out our differences without violence. Leadership Now is committed to working with partners to support a safe and peaceful election process.”

I spoke with BBC News about Leadeship Now's perspective and our letter to the President with more than 400 business and civic leaders signing. Read or sign the letter here: https://lnkd.in/eCKx8zZT We believe that nothing short of American democracy is at stake this November, and we are at risk of a devastating loss. For this reason, Leadership Now Project made the difficult decision to ask President Biden to pass the torch to the next generation of Democratic leaders.

Day 2 of the Aspen Institute ESG Summit 2024 focused on political risk. While the day began with anxious disillusionment and distress at corporate paralysis, it closed on a high note and that was before our trip to 11,000 feet. #AspenESGSummit24 #WhartonESG #ESG #ESGInvesting #ESGStrategy #PoliticalRisk Leadership Now Project

At the most recent Business Roundtable quarterly meeting, former President Donald Trump delivered a "meandering" and unimpressive address to top CEOs. Despite initially supportive attitudes, several executives left the meeting less inclined to back Trump, citing his inability to clearly articulate policy plans. “Trump doesn’t know what he’s talking about… he did not explain how he planned to accomplish any of his policy proposals,” said one. He “could not keep a straight thought [and] was all over the map.” Read this CNBC article for more: https://lnkd.in/gvneH_dA #LeadershipNow #BusinessandDemocracy

Writing in The Economist, LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman warns American business leaders against supporting Donald Trump, urging them to prioritize democracy and legal integrity over short-term gains. "The rule of law is on the line in this election,” he writes. “Americans who prize respect for the law, stability, and prosperity should take Mr. Trump literally and seriously, and do everything they can to prevent his return to the White House." Hoffman's message is clear: Trump's return would jeopardize economic stability and turn America into a playground for autocrats. https://lnkd.in/eBxQJvez #LeadershipNow #BusinessandDemocracy

In their latest op-ed, former U.S. Treasury Secretary Robert E. Rubin and former chairman and chief executive of American Express Kenneth I. Chenault detail the profound risks to our economy posed by a second Trump term, from escalating national debt to undermining regulatory standards and destabilizing global alliances. Trump's proposed policies could lead to higher inflation, increased interest rates, and global instability, they write, likening a potential second term to playing "economic Russian roulette… with many more bullets in the chamber."
