  • We had a fantastic #CommunityConversation about #ElectricVehicles today! Our panelists discussed various aspects of EV ownership, including the financial benefits, highlighting potential long-term savings despite higher initial costs. They emphasized the importance of expanding both public and at-home charging infrastructure to facilitate broader adoption. The discussion also covered current local and federal policies and incentives designed to promote EV use, with suggestions for future enhancements. Technological advancements in battery life, vehicle range, and charging speed were noted as making EVs more practical and accessible. The overarching theme was not about replacing combustion vehicles with EVs but rather about offering more energy choices. This aligns with the broader trend of diversification in work, living, and transportation, aiming to enhance resiliency and adaptability within our communities. Thank you to our amazing panelists for taking the time to speak to our group! 🔥 Joe Gehrdes, Director, External Affairs, Huntsville Utilities 🔥 Thomas Nunez, MURP, City Planning, City of Huntsville, AL 🔥 Jared Mitchem, Regional Vice President, Tennessee Valley Authority 🔥 Moderated by Dennis Madsen, AICP, Manager of Urban and Long-Range Planning, City of Huntsville, AL #lghalumni #leadershipgreaterhuntsville

  • Our C-27 Class kicked off their Program Year with a great 2-day retreat last week full of bonding opportunities and primers for the conversations to come throughout the year. After an eventful (and fun) kickoff we are so excited to see what conversations our C-27 Class brings to the table throughout the rest of of their 9 Program Days. We were so encouraged to see the vulnerability and openness of the class as they came together last week. This group is ready to learn, ask the hard questions, have the tough conversations and change our community! A big thank you to Embassy Suites and Shocco Springs for hosting us! Let's hear it for the ... BEST CLASS EVER!

  • Management Academy 15 kicked off their Orientation for the 2024-2025 Program Year last week, marking the beginning of an exciting journey for 46 local leaders. Over the next 10 months, these participants will connect, learn, and grow both professionally and personally. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our MA-15 Presenting Sponsor, Mazda Toyota Manufacturing, for their support in making this year's program possible. The Orientation began at The Vision in South Huntsville. The day started with introductions to LGH and Management Academy, followed by the Name Game, helping the 46 classmates get acquainted. The afternoon was filled with Low Ropes and Team Building activities, facilitated by The Vision staff, which provided a fantastic opportunity for the class to bond through collaborative challenges. After working up a sweat, the group enjoyed a refreshing treat from A Little Something Extra Ice Cream Truck. The day concluded with discussions on their small group projects, where the class voted on the initiatives they felt most passionate about. Day two took place at Calhoun Community College's Huntsville campus, beginning with an insightful DiSC presentation. The day continued with engaging activities at the Huntsville Escape Rooms and productive meetings with small group non-profit representatives. The day wrapped up with a fun game that helped everyone learn a “fun fact” about each class member. This two-day Orientation has undoubtedly set the tone for an incredible program year ahead. We can't wait to see how MA-15 will continue to grow, learn, and lead in our community! #MA15BestClassEver
