About us

LEAF's purpose is to increase college enrollment and persistence among low-income students attending East San José High Schools; to support systemic reform in the education system and to benefit all low-income students and to increase funding for all schools in East San José. We are currently comprised of four programs that prioritize academic success, parent engagement, and economic mobility for families that are experiencing systemic barriers alongside their first-generation student for the first time. We work to serve the socioeconomically disadvantaged Latino/Hispanic students of East San Jose through our support programming: 1. LEAF Center for College Success 2. LEAF Centro Educativo Para Padres 3. Career Exploration & Discovery 4. Eastside Education Initiative Notable Achievements: Program To Watch for 2023 Examples of Excelencia: Our College Success Program is recognized for its impactful efforts to improve Latino student achievement. • 📚 This month, we were thrilled to host a transformative tour of Evergreen Valley College for about 30 LEAF Scholars, including some of our second-year scholars who had yet to tour their campus. For many of our scholars who are first-generation college students, this event was a pivotal step in building a strong sense of connection and support, essential for their journey through higher education. 🌟🎓 🚶🏽♂️ The tour was more than just a walkthrough; it was an opportunity for our second-year scholars to welcome and guide the incoming first-years. 🤝 Their shared experiences and encouragement fostered a warm sense of belonging, making the transition smoother. 💫 🙌🏽 A heartfelt thank you to Evergreen Valley College for their incredible collaboration and to our second-year LEAF Scholars for creating a welcoming environment for their peers. Together, we are building a community where every scholar feels supported and empowered to achieve their dreams. 🌱🏆 #LEAFCommunity #FirstGenPride #ScholarsSupportingScholars

Executive Director at Latino Education Advancement Foundation

The FAFSA application issues are far from resolved, with over 220,000 LESS students completing the application this year in California alone. The vast majority of those remaining are current college students, who often don't know where to turn when issues and questions arise as they fill it out. With higher education continuing to be out of reach financially for so many students, it is critical that students receive support to complete this application as soon as possible. A huge shout out to the Latino Education Advancement Foundation team, including our amazing summer interns and uAspire partners, for hosting over 13 support events and workshops and individual office hours to ensure over 450 students and their families are able to complete this application and secure their college funding! *Table below from CSAC's June Commission meeting update.
