🔈 I don't typically share product news on here. But it's notable today for a specific reason. Paxton AI, a legal research provider, released an AI-powered Citator. And along with it--publicized the internal and external benchmarks of the tool's precision, recall, and F-1 score in its marketing material. The company also lists out a pricing structure on its website. Benchmarks, the science behind them, and their weight--might be up for debate. But as reporters in the legal tech industry, we don't often see much transparency into the behind-the-scenes of tools. So, on Paxton AI's part, it is an interesting choice to have made. And now something different for the holiday. Last month, "Pharma Bro" Martin Shkreli was hit with a trade secrets misappropriation lawsuit for livestreaming a digital copy of Wu-Tang Clan's "Once Upon a Time in Shaolin" album after being forced to forfeit the only physical copy of the album in existence as part of the judgment in his securities fraud sentencing in 2018. The new owners of the album, digital art collective PleasrDAO, brought the suit. If you don't remember the story of Shkreli and this one-of-a-kind album, this will be a fun trip down memory lane. Shimmy Shimmy Ya and Happy 4th, everyone! And remember, Wu-Tang is for the children. My latest for Legaltech News | Law.com. https://lnkd.in/eT85pj3t

From press releases to trade shows to many (many!) product demos in legal tech---retrieval augmented generation (RAG), shows up as a solution for LLMs’ hallucination problem. For technologists, RAG is a little more nuanced than that. It can be a useful mechanism for reducing hallucinations, but it’s not a permanent solution for every type of AI tool, and often shows up in different ways depending on implementation, they told Legaltech News. Basically, while shopping for generative AI tools in legal, understanding what RAG is beyond marketing jargon, and digging further into the capabilities specific to each relevant product may prevent expensive headaches down the line, experts said.
