About us

LifeCenter Northwest is one of the 56 federally-designated nonprofit organ procurement organizations (OPOs) in the United States. LifeCenter Northwest saves and enhances lives by facilitating the recovery of organs and tissues in Alaska, Montana, northern Idaho and Washington. By educating the community about the need and the importance for people to register their donation wishes, we hope to help the 100,000+ people waiting for a transplant in the United States. Mission LifeCenter Northwest is dedicated to saving and enhancing lives through the recovery of organs and tissues for transplant. Kaden Hollis was born seemingly healthy with big brown eyes and a head full of black hair. But around 8 weeks old, Cindie and Robert Hollis noticed the yellow developing in their son’s eyes and skin. During a routine check-up, Kaden’s pediatrician knew something was wrong, and Kaden was admitted to Seattle Children’s Hospital for the first of many stays. Following Kaden’s first birthday, he was diagnosed with a rare liver disease that made it difficult for him to eat, gain weight or develop enough strength to even stand on his own. He was listed for a liver transplant at 18 months old, and received a liver from a deceased donor a month later in December of 2006. Today, Kaden is 19 and thriving. "I want to thank my donor's family from the bottom of my heart," he said. "Without the gift of life, I would not be here today."

In a tale of friendship and multicultural solidarity, Chris found himself facing a life-changing health crisis in 2011 when he began dialysis and urgently needed a kidney transplant. Tom, a former high school football teammate who, upon learning of Chris's condition, stepped up with an incredible offer: the donation of his own kidney. Their story took on an even greater impact when they became part of a paired kidney exchange program. The kidney exchange allowed Tom, who is white, to donate his kidney to a Hispanic/Latinx father, while that man's son donated his kidney to Chris, who is African American/Black. This beautiful chain of events not only saved two lives but also beautifully illustrated the power of organ donation and human connection. It's a shining example of how communities can come together to support one another in times of need, embodying the very spirit of National Multiethnic Donor Awareness Month.

In 2005, Tribhawan and Jasmin faced an tragedy when their 21-year-old son Anand suffered fatal head injuries in a car accident. Despite their limited knowledge of organ donation at the time, a compassionate nurse suggested they consider this option. Their decision to agree ultimately saved six lives through the donation of Anand's heart, liver, kidneys, and pancreas. This experience profoundly changed the family's perspective on organ donation. Today, they have become donor advocates, with Tribhawan volunteering for organizations like TransLife in Florida, the National Donor Family Council, and the National Kidney Foundation. He frequently shares their story, emphasizing the positive impact of their decision. Tribhawan reflects on Anand's character, describing him as "this terrific guy, this loving guy." He expresses gratitude for their choice, saying, "We are very happy that we made the best decision." The family has found solace in connecting with four of Anand's organ recipients, witnessing how their son's gift has transformed their lives. The impact of Anand's donation extends beyond the immediate recipients. "Some of them are having children, some are having grandchildren," says Tribhuvan, illustrating the far-reaching effects of organ donation. Tribhawan now advocates for others to register as organ donors, emphasizing the potential to leave a lasting legacy. He poignantly states, "Should anything happen to you, you will be a blessing to somebody's family. As long as the sun shines, you will be remembered.”

"Yesterday was five years since Sam Schumacher donated his heart to me," writes heart recipient Jeff Siddiqui. "I am very fortunate, not just for the transplant, but to have the heart of someone who was kind, caring, loving and generous." He adds, "Five years ago, I could not walk 15 feet without having to sit down. Five years ago, I was admitted to the hospital and the docs said I would have to stay there until I receive a heart (or die). Thank you, Sam!" Thank you to all of the donors and their families who choose to help others through the gift of organ, eye and tissue donation. 💙 💚

You can choose to register as a donor or change your donor status at any time. Most people register their decision when they receive or renew their driver’s license or ID, but Washington and Montana residents can register or make changes to their registry on our website at lcnw.org. Alternatively, registerme.org is a national database where anyone can register, check their status or make changes to their donor registry. It’s your choice and it’s easy!
