The staff of UCP attended an in-service given by our Rehab Supervisor, Steven M. Asofsky, MA, CCC-SLP/TSHH. This in-service highlighted choking and aspiration precautions to ensure the individuals are safe during mealtimes. Education on anatomy and physiology of the swallow mechanism was discussed as was current terminology and protocols for assessment, including a live FEES procedure. The attendees were further provided with a reference guide to assist with carryover of solid and liquid consistencies and mealtime preparation. As a result, the organization will be implementing this topic into their future ongoing educational staff training. Thank you Steven & the UCP team for your participation in this in-service!
