Also featured on the summer issue of Fast Company Magazine, the Interactive Learning Pavilion at UC Santa Barbara has been honored with an Honorable Mention under the Wellness Category of the Fast Company’s 2024 Innovation by Design Awards. As the growing student population at UC Santa Barbara exceeded existing classroom capacity, there was a strong need for the new Interactive Learning Pavilion, which promotes experiential learning in five lecture halls, three active learning spaces, and 20 flexible classrooms. The new heartbeat of campus, the building is a porous structure with many exterior gathering spaces that welcome all to enter and explore. Inspired by its natural surroundings, the architecture and material palette take advantage of the climate and echo local geological conditions. Ultimately, the building establishes a welcoming new place for social interaction and innovation at UCSB. Continuing with the coverage related to the new Forest Trailhead at the Woodland Park Zoo designed by LMN Architects, e-architect from the UK publishes new images of the project. Jennifer DuHamel, Principal at LMN Architects, comments: “We were inspired by the aspirations of Woodland Park Zoo to not only build empathy toward our natural world and inspire guests with conservation stories but also to use architecture and programming to move guests toward taking real conservation action. Together we designed an innovative, flexible armature for conservation action, including education, conversation, hands-on activities, and events which are surrounded by dynamic forest life. “This project has been a true collaboration with Woodland Park Zoo and the local community, with a particular focus on exploring design ideas with groups who have been traditionally underrepresented at the zoo. With connection as its watchword, the new pavilion signals the future of zoo experiences, where visitors are given agency to find their own path, uncovering the inherent interconnectedness of the world’s forests.” Learn more at e-architect: https://lnkd.in/gBTCQWht
