Our Color Me Rad young artists have been hard at work over these past two weeks! Jessica Carmen and Beca Escobedo have been assisting emerging painters with designing their own group mural, while Miguel Ozuna and David Kabra have been helping emerging photographers use their lens for self-reflection. Enjoy some recap photos of the process so far from our documentarian Alex Knowbody. We celebrate our community's newest creative contributors this Thursday with an exhibition showcasing work from all participating young artists! Event is FREE and ALL AGES, and will be hosted inside Local Color's newest space, noble workshop & gallery, located on the ground floor of Arya San Jose. Color Me Rad is supported in part by the California Arts Council, a state agency, City of San José’s District 5 Council’s Office, and SVCreates, in partnership with the County of Santa Clara and the Sares Regis Foundation.

The application for Color Me Rad Summer 2024 is closing soon! As we prepare for our upcoming Color Me Rad sessions, we look back on our most recent workshops. Young artists, teaching Artists, and Local Color staff reflect on their experience as part of the Spring 2024 cohort. Let by Jessica Carmen and Beca Escobedo, 11 teens learned the art of mural painting -- and finished the week by sharing their collaborative mural and selling collage prints at a closing reception! If you know a Young Artist who's ready to unleash their creativity, this is a great chance for them to grow by working directly with Working Artists. This summer, Miguel Ozuna and Jessica Carmen will lead workshops on photography and mural painting, respectively. Applications close at 5pm on Friday, June 14. The sign-up form can be found here: https://lnkd.in/gvkPv7c2 Color Me Rad is supported in part by the California Arts Council, a state agency, City of San Jose's District 5 Council's Office, and SVCreates, in partnership with the County of Santa Clara and the Sares Regis Foundation.

Last month, our downtown neighbor Adobe led Local Color staff and artists on a first-of-its-kind art tour of the company’s four-building headquarters. After meeting in the recently completed Founders Tower, we stepped outside to take in Leah Rosenberg’s entrance mural “All Together Now,” then popped around the corner to see Leo Bersamina’s “Community (Self Portrait).” As we headed across the employee bridge that spans San Fernando Street, we came across “Creativity Blooms,” designed by multidisciplinary studio Hou de Sousa. These three pieces can be seen as you drive or walk along San Fernando Street, between Almaden Boulevard and Delmas Avenue. Once inside, we walked through the Photoshop floor, which featured contest-winning works, time capsule booths, a stained glass version of the program’s original toolbar, and an intricately crafted gold leaf sign designed by legendary painter Ken Davis that stopped our small cohort of sign painters in their tracks! Thanks again to employees Janice and Eddie for leading us on a fun and informative field trip, and Adobe for the opportunity to learn more about the art present on your campus! We’re delighted to finally share that we’ve been selected to collaborate with Adobe’s Hometown Commitment and the San Jose Downtown Association on a new landmark project. Jim Fonseca, better known as Jimmy Paints, was recently selected to spearhead a mural concept that will completely transform North San Pedro Street into a vibrant, pedestrian-friendly zone. His design will cover roughly 13,000 square feet – and to bring his vision to life, we need your help! Sign up to help us turn a stretch of asphalt into the next great public art piece in the heart of downtown San Jose. No prior experience necessary! Join us from May 27-31.
