Last week, we shared the impacts of different therapeutic areas and sponsors with their impact on participant discontinuation risk in #clinicaltrials ⚡️In isolation, COVID-19 was not an important factor in increasing participant discontinuation risks. ⚡️What proved more meaningful were the effects of the sponsors and therapeutic areas themselves – the more complex the protocol, and the more exploratory endpoints, the higher the risk of participant discontinuation. But can we expect different discontinuation risk for trials in different geographies? It shouldn’t be too surprising that there are varying participant discontinuation risks across regions across the world, as we see here. Enhancing clinical trials with data-driven insights We are at a crucial moment for clinical trials. With historical data showing an 80-90% failure rate to meet goals, it´s clear that small course corrections are urgently needed to enhance clinical studies and deliver drugs faster to patients in need. 🔎 A 2022 study by the Tufts Center for the Study of Drug Development reveals that the prevalence of Phase 1 to 4 clinical trial protocols with at least one significant protocol amendment, many designed to improve enrollment, has climbed from 57 to 76% since 2015. Redoing a feasibility analysis at an appropriate point mid-study – could be the key to keeping trials on track, and avoiding costly, time-consuming changes.
