  • During her senior year at Lorain Admiral King High School, Tiffany Tarpley honored her fellow 1998 graduates by reciting a poem by Maya Angelou, “And Still I Rise.” In that moment, she knew her path would involve public speaking. But the road wasn’t easy. And an article in The Plain Dealer from 2000, featuring the then LCCC student, reminds her of that. “…the writer said 15 or 20 years from now Tiffany Tarpley would be a household name in Northeast Ohio. It almost makes me emotional when I see it because it’s a realization, I think, of the hard work that I put in. And it’s so interesting, going back and looking through old clips and old things that were saved, it reminds you of the ‘Nos’ and the doors that were closed. And how optimistic you were and how you fought and clawed your way and prayed your way, to get to where you always wanted to be.” Meet Class of 2024 Commodore Hall of Fame Inductee, Tiffany Tarpley, Emmy Award-winning journalist and weekday morning co-anchor of Good Morning Cleveland on WEWS Channel 5 https://lnkd.in/g2ZWtc3j #LCCC60Years #LCCCProud

  • While attending Elyria High School in the mid 1970s, Dan Smith never saw himself getting to where he is today. He simply didn’t think, and wasn’t told, that he was capable. All that changed in 1976, when he stepped foot on the campus of Lorain County Community College. Dan had failed his first test within the first 6 weeks of class and the professor sat down to talk with him. “He said, ‘You’re very capable, you just don’t know how to learn.’ And he literally, over the next week or two, spent time with me teaching me how to study. From then on, once I had that key, all kinds of things got unlocked for me.” That one moment has stayed with Dan, a first-generation college graduation, throughout his career in higher education. “LCCC changed my life. They changed who I am. They changed what I believe about myself. I’ll be forever grateful.” Meet Class of 2024 Commodore Hall of Fame Inductee, Daniel C. Smith, Ph.D., Professor and the Clare W. Barker Chair in Marketing, Dean Emeritus, Kelley School of Business, President & CEO Emeritus, Indiana University Foundation https://lnkd.in/gE5NHD68 #LCCC60Years #LCCCProud

  • Michael Sherman’s first college degree was 16 years in the making. He took some classes at LCCC after graduating from Elyria Catholic in 1968. Unsure of what he wanted to do, Michael left LCCC, joined the workforce and then enlisted in the United States Navy. Once back home, he rejoined the workforce and focused on his degree. Michael earned his associate of technical studies in labor education in 1984 and has since built a rewarding and life-long career in the Union. He’s also devoted his time to LCCC, serving on the District Board of Trustees and LCCC Foundation Board of Directors. “I am bold and I am forward, but it’s all in the name of trying to do the best I can to be a fiduciary of this fine, fine institution.” Meet 2024 Commodore Hall of Fame inductee Michael Sherman. He’s a retired Regional Representative of the Ohio State Association of the Plumbing and Pipefitting Industry; long-time committed leader of LCCC currently serving on the College’s District Board of Trustees and the LCCC Foundation Board of Directors; and dedicated community volunteer and advocate. https://lnkd.in/gpmgZH35 #LCCCProud #LCCC60years
