This week, Lori's Hands participated in a volunteer event hosted by the Boehringer Ingelheim Cares Foundation and Catchafire to celebrate National Intern Day. The event was a brainstorming workshop connecting Boehringer interns with nonprofit partners to tackle critical challenges. Our discussion emphasized the vital role of our student volunteers and alumni, highlighting how they are essential to our current operations and form the pipeline for our future staff, Board of Directors, committees, councils, and donors.

At Lori's Hands, we center our program around companionship, dependability, and the importance of fostering strong connections. As our clients and student volunteers take these values to heart, hear what one of our student volunteers reflected on their experience: "My favorite part of being involved with Lori's Hands is every interaction I have with my clients. One thing I have noticed with my clients and many others is that they tend to express how helpful and how much they appreciate each visit and just having someone there to help them out in any way. Just knowing that I have been able to help make my client's lives better means so much to me. I love seeing my clients smile and hearing them laugh every time I visit, which makes me want to make more memories with them."

Helping clients with simple tasks such as taking out the trash or unloading the dishwasher can significantly impact a client’s mood, stamina, and the way they treat the rest of the day. Our clients love it when our student volunteers can assist them, not only for more ease in their daily schedule but because of the connections fostered and strong relationships built. These friendships lift clients' spirits and allow students to gain new perspectives while being active in intergenerational community service.
