In partnership with StandardVision, we’ve produced a series of digital art pieces for the Central Library Video Wall. This project involved creating cinematic moving “portraits” of Los Angeles historical figures, portrayed by library patrons and community members. Paul Edmonds, the great grandson of Jefferson Lewis Edmonds, stars in this video along with Arianne Edmonds in the interview.

“We’re committed to preserving L.A. history, and we get excited about telling untold stories of Los Angeles and Angelenos. That’s very much what Angel City Press has done through their publishing of very high-quality, well-researched books with wonderful authors.”

Our publicly available photo archive provides access to significant moments in Los Angeles history.
On November 5, 1913, the water gates were opened at the cascades in Sylmar, CA and water started to flow into the City of Los Angeles from the Eastern Sierra. Committed to the needs of a young Los Angeles in the early 20th Century, civic leaders led by Chief Engineer William Mulholland constructed an aqueduct that, through innovative engineering, would deliver water to the growing city of Los Angeles using gravity alone. Mulholland’s infrastructure and design have stood the test of time holding up through 2023’s historic weather whiplash water year that brought a snowpack 3x that of a normal year. Special thanks to the Los Angeles Public Library and their photo database, Tessa, for providing access to significant moments in Los Angeles history. For 110 years the Los Angeles Aqueduct system has provided Angelenos with safe, reliable water and carbon-free power. #LAA110 #WaterReliability #LADWPintheEasternSierra
