About us

The Louisiana Resource Center for Educators was founded by building a community pertnership with the Louisiana Department of Economic Development, the Baton Rouge ARea Foundation, LSU, EBR Parish Government and the Novartis U.S. Foundation. On April 28, 1998, LRCE opened, becoming the first and only shared resource center for PreK-12 teachers in Louisiana. LRCE has experienced remarkable growth over nearly 20 years. The library has grown from a collection of about 5000 titles in 1998 to over 110,000 titles today. LRCE extends beyond the library and includes LRCE Teach!, an alternitive certification program; Reach for Success, a summer enrichment program; and Find your Future, a workforce development program for high school sophomores.

  • 🌟 Teacher Spotlight Series: Tonya Lambert 🌟 Today, we're thrilled to spotlight Tonya Lambert, a dedicated educator at Summerfield Elementary in the CADDO PARISH SCHOOL DISTRICT. Tonya has been a proud educator since graduating from college. She has always aspired to be a teacher and began her career as a substitute teacher for six years before transitioning to a full-time teaching role in her own classroom. This marks her second year at Summerfield Elementary, where she teaches third-grade SPED. Reflecting on her current LRCE experience, Tonya states: "I believe LRCE is a great program, laid out straightforwardly with the schedule, which allows us to anticipate and make necessary arrangements. It provides a conducive environment in classrooms and resources that help us engage effectively with students. Collaborating with teachers from various grades enhances our ability to communicate concepts not only to students but also to middle and high school teachers." Her favorite aspect of LRCE is how it facilitates success and supports the special education program. She highlights its transparency from the outset and the clarity of the curriculum, which covers various topics essential for understanding children with special needs. Tonya emphasizes LRCE's role as an invaluable partner, providing practical advice that yields positive results. Reflecting on her LRCE experience, Kristen shares: “I certainly had my doubts and fears, but I can confidently say that LRCE made the experience as smooth as possible. I learned so much over the online courses, and I always looked forward to our Zoom meetings. I still got to work closely with the fantastic instructors of LRCE and my fellow cohort members. It was a very hands-on experience, and the support I received was incredible. It still felt like a tight-knit community, even over the virtual landscape.” Her favorite part about LRCE is the continued support they offered during my first year of teaching. She states: “Now, as I am nearing the end of my 4th year of being a teacher, I can proudly say that LRCE has made me into the teacher I am today. I have found my passion in education, and I would not be where I am today without them.” Thank you, Kristen, for your commitment to our students! #lrceteach #championteacher
