Exciting news from yesterday's board meeting! We announced over $37 million in grant funding for critical coastal projects in Louisiana.🎉 This includes $25.5 million from the RESTORE Council to advance our Adaptive Management Program, which integrates new data to enhance our coastal protection efforts. Additionally, NOAA has recommended $10 million for the Chandeleur Islands Restoration Project, which will enhance the resilience, function and longevity of this vital barrier island chain. NOAA has also proposed $12 million for The Nature Conservancy’s GulfCorps Resilience Collaborative, which will implement nature-based solutions across the Gulf Coast, benefiting Louisiana and other states by restoring habitats, building oyster reefs, and enhancing community resilience to coastal hazards. These combined efforts represent a significant investment in the future of Louisiana’s coast and the protection of our communities. Yesterday afternoon, we had the privilege of joining U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy for a tour of the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway West Closure Complex (WCC) led by the Southeast Louisiana Flood Protection Authority-West! During his visit to coastal Louisiana, Sen. Cassidy met with several Parish Presidents and coastal leaders to discuss key issues affecting our state including ways to increase flood prevention, economic development and federal funding. 🌱 Did you know? The WCC in Belle Chasse is the largest pumping station in the world!🤯 It provides a critical protection barrier for multiple coastal communities including Plaquemines, Orleans, and Jefferson Parishes by reducing flood risk in the wake of natural disasters. ⛈️ Read more about Sen. After Hurricane Ida in 2021, over 90% of the marsh surrounding the Northwest Little Lake area in Lafourche Parish was lost. In collaboration with the Coastal Wetlands Planning, Protection and Restoration Act (CWPPRA), the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), and the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), the Northwest Little Lake Marsh Creation Project aims to create/nourish almost 350 acres of marsh and restore/protect nearly 7,100 feet of shoreline that were previously destroyed. Together, we are helping this valuable ecosystem thrive once again. 🌱

It was a great day for a groundbreaking moment!! ☀️ Earlier today, Governor Jeff Landry joined us, the US Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans (USACE), and federal, state, and local leaders to break ground on Phase 2 construction of the Houma Navigation Canal (HNC) Lock Complex. Highlighted in both Louisiana’s 2023 Coastal Master Plan and recently approved Fiscal Year 2025 Annual Plan, the HNC Lock Complex is a key component of the Morganza to the Gulf Hurricane Protection system and will offer both ecological protection and economic benefits.🌊 “I want to express my gratitude to everyone from Terrebonne, CPRA, the Corps, and our state and federal legislators for acknowledging that the communities, cultures, and businesses thriving in south Louisiana are invaluable and must be continuously protected.” said Gov. Exciting progress is ~shore~ happening on Grand Isle! 🏖️ We recently visited the Grand Island Dune and Beach Restoration Project where sand is currently being placed along the existing dune to restore and repair the area previously damaged by Hurricane Ida. Led by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District, this project will provide an extra layer of risk reduction for the Town of Grand Isle against future storms.🌀⛈️ CALLAN MARINE LTD

#ProjectUpdate🦺: Work recently kicked off on the 466 acre No Name Bayou Marsh Creation Project! Currently the external dikes are under construction with dredging expected to begin later this fall. Located in Cameron Parish, this CWPPRA project will restore vital marshland to southwest Louisiana.🌱
