With founder-led marketing, you (as the founder) become the chief evangelist for your company. You create content that helps educate your audience about the problem you solve, the category you're in (or creating 😎), lessons learned along the way, etc. As you position yourself as an expert in the space, you become the "go-to" for you audience when they think about THEIR problems. So that by the time they're ever ready for a conversation, you've already built a level of trust that removes SO much friction. We had Megan Bowen on the pod to talk alllllll about founder-led marketing and sales — and how you can start to weave it into your strategy as a recruiter. Link is in the comments!

Are your outreach emails full of fluff? ESPECIALLY when doing cold bizdev, if someone opens your email, you need to deliver value without making them scroll. ⤴ Remove unnecessary filler words ⤴ Put yourself in the shoes of a busy C-level exec ⤴ Edit your email down to the things with the most impact Think of it this way — What kinds of emails do you open? Which do you READ? 🤔

Sometimes the most impactful activities are the least scalable. And while "SCALABILITY" has become one of the highest aims for many marketers and salespeople, the activities that require a bit more time and effort are the ones that really stand out. Troy Munson is a fan of the good ol' fashioned in-person drop-off (armed with Crumbl cookies, obviously). While hand-delivering sweets may not be possible for your business (or for every prospect), the ethos of this "extra mile" approach is one that you can certainly incorporate in other ways. Troy shares ideas like this and more on a recent episode of Becoming a Hiring Machine — link is in the comments!

At the end of the day, you get paid based on outcomes, not outputs. Which starts to break down the hustle culture mentality of "MORE CALLS, MORE SENDS, AT ANY COST!!!!!" If you're blasting out thousands of emails but getting sub-5 responses... What's it all for? Wouldn't your time be better spent being more strategic and trying to find UNIQUE and COMPELLING ways to get in front of your audience? Jen Allen-Knuth recommends out-THINKING — rather than simply out-WORKING — your competitors. Simply shifting your focus from outputs to outcomes can be a game-changer.

"DO I REALLY SOUND LIKE THAT?!?!" 🤢 It's a known fact that pretty much everyone hates listening to their voice on a recording. But when there are lessons to be learned, DON'T SKIP IT! Listen back to your calls — the good calls and the bad calls. How many "um"s and "ah"s are you saying? How can you reflect on what's not working so well, AND double-down on winning behaviors? Listening back to yourself to identify winning behaviors is just one of many outreach tips William Burry spills on today's episode of Becoming a Hiring Machine — link is in the comments, you know what to do!

Instead of *avoiding* the elephant in the room... Jen Allen-Knuth says you should call it out. Acknowledge it in order to help people start to challenge their own assumptions about why something "won't work." If you think of a company is resistant to change for a specific reason - LEAD WITH THAT. Then give them a peek into how another company ultimately overcame that same objection. (Jen's episode of Becoming a Hiring Machine went live today — it's part of our month-long series on business development and filled with absolute BANGERS like this one. Getting in front of hiring managers directly is some of the most effective bizdev outreach you can make. But so many secure hiring manager contact info and then squander their chances by... Using the same old general, high-level messaging that everyone else is using. If you want to get in front of hiring managers and — MOST IMPORTANTLY – actually hear back from them... You've got to communicate the value you can deliver, right from the jump. You've got to demonstrate that you understand the specifics of what they're looking for, and that you've got the right candidates to meet their needs. Otherwise, what separates you from the other high-level messages in their inbox?

PS: I like your corgis 😇 What does true personalization look like? (Hint: it goes beyond just inserting a <FIRST NAME> merge field in your email subject line) How do you walk the line between communication value + information AND personalizing in a way that demonstrates you've truly done your research? Kyle Coleman gives a veritable MASTERCLASS on this (and more business development wizardry) on a recent episode of Becoming a Hiring Machine. Link is in the comments 👇
