THE IMPACTS OF A CHINESE SUPPLY CHAIN What happens when one country dominates production of the materials that power electric vehicles? For one thing, it's putting other nations at serious disadvantage and can have a major impact on supply chain resiliency. A recent article in Semafor looks at the issue of overreliance on graphite, a key element in lithium-ion batteries used in electric vehicles and other devices that require energy storage. Lyten's Keith Norman weighs in on some of the ways the industry can start to move away from depending solely on this material to diversify and strengthen the battery supply chain. As he puts it, building supply chain resilience is now one of the top conversations in the industry today. What makes lithium-sulfur batteries a better option for today's high performance electrification needs? Reason #4: Supply Chain Resilience and National Security Today, nearly every battery produced in the world is dependent on raw materials and manufacturing from a single country. No country should have a monopoly on something as important to energy storage, which powers everything from our electronics, to vehicles, to the electricity grid. Lithium-Sulfur batteries can be manufactured in the US and EU with entirely locally sourced materials. This means freedom from the supply chain constraints currently holding back electrification. What makes lithium-sulfur batteries a better option for today's high performance electrification needs? Reason #3: Carbon Footprint What if we could build a battery without mined minerals? We are getting close. Lithium-Sulfur requires no nickel, cobalt, manganese or graphite. We build lithium-sulfur with three active ingredients: (1) Abundantly available and ultra low cost sulfur (2) 3D graphene sourced by capturing carbon from methane (a greenhouse gas) (3) Lithium, an element found in brines geographically dispersed across the planet. The end result is less mining, less transportation, and less energy to build the batteries we need for electrification. #Lyten #LithiumSulfur #3DGraphene #EVBatteries #Sustainability

What makes lithium-sulfur batteries a better option for today's high performance electrification needs? Reason #2: Cost. Better performance is not enough. Mass adoption of batteries requires a lower cost battery, Lyten builds lithium-sulfur batteries with just three primary ingredients that can be locally sourced: sulfur, carbon sequestered from methane, and lithium metal. The elimination of mined minerals like nickel, cobalt, manganese, and graphite means a lower cost bill of materials. Localizing the supply chain means lower cost logistics. Manufacturing on the same equipment and lines as today's gigafactories means lower cost infrastructure. Our mission is to deliver a battery that outperforms the highest performing NMC (Nickel-Manganese-Cobalt) batteries, but at a cost that competes with low-cost LFP (lithium-iron-phosphate) batteries. #Lyten #LithiumSulfur #Manufacturing #CostReduction #Sustainability

What makes lithium sulfur-batteries a better option for today's high-performance electrification needs? Let's boil it down to the top four reasons. Reason #1: Energy Density Lithium-sulfur is made of higher energy density materials. In other words...it can store more energy per kilogram of battery. That means EVs that can go further, electric trucks that weigh less, drones and eVTOLs that can carry larger payloads for longer distances, more satellites that can be launched on a single mission, and so many more applications. In fact, we are working towards lithium-sulfur batteries that weigh 50% less than NMC (nickel-manganese-colbat) and 75% less than LFP (lithium-iron-phosphate), which are the two market leading battery chemistries. #LithiumSulfer #EVBatteries #Netzero

Lyten has created a battery that can be locally sourced and manufactured in the U.S., Europe and anywhere else across the globe. Lithium-Sulfur technology brings a high energy density and lightweight chemistry that eliminates dependency on mined materials like nickel and cobalt. Couple this with the ability to manufacture Lyten lithium-sulfur on existing lithium-ion gigafactory equipment and you get a truly sustainable, low-cost, and supply chain-friendly battery for the EV and mobility sectors. We're making it possible to create economic growth without emissions growth. #Sustainability #EVbatteries #CarbonFootprint
