Rolling Stone recently reported on companies attempting to use digital replicas of actor's likenesses—a topic we’ve been covering at M13 for over a year. https://lnkd.in/eyPpJNbR At our annual Future Perfect event, Adobe Chief Strategy Officer Scott Belsky spoke with M13 co-founder Carter Reum about the huge implications of using a creator's likeness without them necessarily being in the room. When a person’s likeness can be easily mimicked by AI tools, he predicted we’ll see a shift in where real people spend their time. “For example, think about an actor in a scotch ad. Actors are at their best when they’re on set acting. It’s not necessarily a good use of their time to sit around smiling while someone is sprucing up a glass of scotch,” Scott explained. “I think we’ll enter a time where it’ll be an actor’s likeness that is licensed, but they won’t actually be there.” Read more about what the proliferation of AI tools could mean for human workers: https://lnkd.in/ey9qZbdd #AI #Creators #AItools

Established in 2016 with offices in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and New York, we are a full-stack partner that brings a deep bench of full-time operators to help founders outperform and build category-defining companies. Our Propulsion model helps founders execute faster and with less capital towards better outcomes, with 3x people on our Propulsion team for every one investing team member. Our portfolio includes more than 200 direct investments, with 25 exits to date. M13 has seeded seven companies and been in the Series A of five others that went on to achieve unicorn status. Messier 13 (or M13) is one of the brightest star clusters in the northern sky. It’s full of remarkable individual stars, but when those stars come together, they create something that’s truly greater than the sum of its parts—inspiring the M13 philosophy of “brighter together.” We’re proud that M13 has been awarded as a Built In Best Place to Work in both LA and NYC multiple years running.

“We realized the emergency system is built on the assumption everyone is using landlines,” Prepared co-founder Michael Chime told New York Post. Michael, Neal Soni, and Dylan Gleicher set out to build tech that would capitalize on the fact most callers are using smartphones — and let emergency responders see it was going on at the other end of a 911 call. “A picture is worth a thousand words so the ability to text a picture in a fire that shows flames are blue shows it’s a chemical or hazmat fire,” Michael said, noting that those kinds of fires require completely different responses and having advance info gives firefighters time to prepare. Four years ago, Prepared was providing their technology to less than thirty emergency call centers. Today, their technology supports around 1,000 centers, with more than 20% of all dispatchers across the US adopting their system. And now, Apple's iOS 18 update integrates Prepared's technology, allowing iPhone users making emergency calls to share videos and photos, even without a link, with 911 dispatch centers.
