Biogen’s new CoLab facility isn’t just a lab – it’s an innovation hub driving equity in STEM education and workforce development. We look forward to seeing them open their doors and empower students and young professionals to launch their careers in life sciences in Massachusetts.

We celebrated the transition of Biogen’s Community Lab to the CoLab this week with our nonprofit partners, alumni, employee volunteers and government leaders, including Kim Driscoll, Massachusetts Executive Office of Economic Development (EOED), state legislators and city officials. When we founded the Community Lab in 2002, we wanted to open the doors of biotech to underserved students in Kendall Square. With the CoLab, we will now collaborate with nonprofits partners and local teachers to continue to inspire students and young professionals who will shape the future of the life science and healthcare industry in Massachusetts. Learn more about the impact of the CoLab and plans for the future: https://ow.ly/fwux50Sz2Lc #TeamBiogen | #HealthEquity | #TeamMassachusetts

Excited to share highlights from FY2024. Over the past year, MassVentures provided grants and venture funding to more than 50 startups and PIs to fulfill its mission of supporting the innovation economy and the economic growth initiatives of the Commonwealth. These activities, coupled with over 8200 hours of business guidance, helped deliver well-prepared founders who went on to receive more than $500M in federal non-dilutive grants, raise over $750M in venture capital, and create new jobs. We’re proud to be part of Team Massachusetts! I’m thrilled to support the #MassLeadsACT economic development bill and am telling everyone I can about its critical role. Strengthening #Massachusetts position in #lifesciences, #climatetech, #advancedmanufacturing and #AI depends on continued investment which is why this bill is so essential. The proposed legislation includes a $1 billion investment over the next decade, revitalizes the Life Sciences Tax Incentive Program, reinvests in the Massachusetts Life Sciences Center, and more. I am proudly Team Massachusetts and now, thanks to Secretary of Economic Development Yvonne Hao and Undersecretary Sarah Stanton, have the official state-issued bracelet to prove it. Sec. Hao and the Healey-Driscoll Administration are poised to reauthorize the $1 billion/10-year Life Sciences Initiative 3.0. Since its first iteration in 2008, Massachusetts has: ✅ 110% life sciences industry employment growth (18 of the top 20 global pharmaceutical companies are now based here). ✅Scaled to ~30% of US life sciences venture capital funding. ✅Become home to ~15% of the US drug development pipeline. ✅Grown lab space by ~250% since 2010, with more than 60 million square feet in 2023. ✅#1 in National Institutes of Health awards per capita (2022). It was wonderful discussing how healthcare innovation, equity and access are central to continued industry growth. Massachusetts is fortunate to have leadership that believes wholeheartedly in innovating for job creation and, most importantly, patients. cc: Massachusetts Executive Office of Economic Development (EOED) #ArdelyxProud

The Mass Leads Act aims to strengthen Massachusetts’ global leadership and expand opportunity in our state now and for a generation to come. Massachusetts Biomedical Initiatives (MBI), a key anchor to Central Massachusetts and the entire Commonwealth's life sciences ecosystem, has been supported by the MLSC enabling MBI to triple the capacity of the incubator’s facility, expand its workforce programming, and advance its cluster building activities. The next iteration of the Life Sciences Initiative can help ensure the benefits of the life sciences continue to be shared across Massachusetts. #WhyMassLeads #WhyLifeSciences
