  • WE ARE HIRING! At Made 2 Move, we strive to bring relationships back to healthcare. Our treatment philosophy revolves around patient-centered healthcare: putting the patient first in everything we do. We want to ask about: ▪ their goals ▪ their barriers ▪ their stressors ▪ their recovery ▪ their hopes ▪ their dreams   We want to emphasize the importance of building a relationship with your patient. They are searching for a healthcare provider to finally listen to them and provide them with a plan that can reduce their symptoms and put them on a path to becoming a healthier human being. We believe that rehab is a process and a commitment. It’s about slowly stacking bricks and building confidence + capacity. Rehab is a collaborative process between PT and patient. We are not about the quick fix. We are not about “fixing” at all. We are about empowering the patient with the tools, guidance, accountability, and expertise to get them the best result. The Made 2 Move Treatment Philosophy revolves around the healthcare provider being a guide throughout the patient’s recovery process. We coach the patient in the direction that fits their goals, circumstances, needs, wants, and lifestyle. We take patient preference and beliefs into account and prioritize meeting the patient where they’re at. We feel that we have the ability to change someone’s life trajectory for the better. This takes time, trust, and a relationship with a patient. If you can establish a healthcare environment that is rooted in these principles… then we believe that, together, we can change the healthcare system for the better. • CrossFit Injury Rehab Part 2: Questions Every Crossfitter Should Ask Themselves At Made 2 Move, we see a lot of CrossFit athletes for injuries such as lower back, shoulder, knee, wrist, or elbow pain. And unlike other professionals, we are NOT going to tell you that Crossfit is bad for you and that you need to stop doing it. (Check out last week’s blog where we dispelled some of the myths surrounding injuries in the sport of CrossFit). Almost every one of our Made 2 Move PTs has done CrossFit previously or currently trains at one of the local CrossFit boxes throughout the Charleston area. However, there are times when we as CrossFit athletes (your Made 2 Move PTs included) could be smarter with our WODs, programming, and movements to reduce the risk of injury in the sport of CrossFit. As a regular “check in” and/or if we start to feel a nagging pain come on, we like to ask ourselves these questions: Click the link below to read more! https://lnkd.in/eGwkvGee

  • NEW BLOG POST! At Made 2 Move, a large majority of our clients come to us from Crossfit. Many people will say, ‘Isn’t there something wrong here- if SO many people from Crossfit end up in PT?’ You could have that view, OR you can see it as: Every day presents itself with an inherent risk of injury, simply by getting out of bed (you could roll your ankle the first time your feet hit the floor). Does this mean we just stay in bed all day for fear of rolling our ankle? NO!  The second reason a majority of our clients come from the Crossfit world may simply be the result of the spaces we put ourselves in. We work in gyms like Ethos and attend fitness competitions like FOTC and Sacred Pine Invitational, so naturally we meet many local Crossfitters. Lots of these athletes come from an ortho doctor who told them CrossFit was bad for them and that they were going to get hurt or need surgery in 5 years because of CrossFit. And often note that all of their friends and family (lovingly) tell them these same things. Are these things true? Is CrossFit bad for you? Is injury inevitable in CrossFit compared to other sports?  We may be biased, but in part 1 of this 2-part series, we’re going to dispel the myth that Crossfit is bad for you and sets you up for injury.  Part 2 will delve into strategies you can take and questions you can ask to not only mitigate your risk of injury but also effectively reach your athletic-related goals in CrossFit. • NEW BLOG POST! Management Through Measurement Peter Trucker, a leader in the business management industry coined the popular phrase: “You can’t manage what you don’t measure” or stated differently: “What gets measured gets managed.” When managing a business, how can you track progress, growth, and identify bottlenecks without having some sort of metric to compare it to? While this phrase is relevant in the business world, it also applies to injury management. When managing an injury, how can you track progress, growth, and identify setbacks without having some sort of metric to compare it to? • NEW BLOG POST: Unveiling the Parallels: Food Poisoning and Chronic Pain- Part 2 Last week’s blog delved into the analogous nature of food poisoning and chronic pain. While they are two seemingly contrasting conditions, they share some common threads. And as quick as today’s day and age can be to try and tie definitions to every condition, pain is an incredibly complex and nuanced experience with no definition that can clearly encompass and define everyone’s experience with it. However, knowing some of the mechanisms that play a role in chronic pain can help us begin to address it. Now that some of the mechanisms surrounding chronic pain have been addressed (see last week’s blog), what are some of the ways Made 2 Move addresses this pain in PT? • NEW BLOG POST! Back Pain Part 2: Attacking It in the Gym Last week’s blog delved into all the things surrounding the prevalence, history, and unacceptable recurrence rate of low back pain in our world. Great information to know but now what do we do about it? How can we build a back that is more mobile and resilient? As discussed last week, there is the natural history of any condition ie. our body’s inherent resilience that leads to the resolution of pain and injury despite any intervention we do.   BUT,  intervening with PT and exercise often allows for symptom modification in the meantime, targets the recurrent nature of back pain, and can serve as a complement in pushing natural history in the right direction. Check out these 3 exercises to strengthen your back- all of which can be done with bodyweight, a barbell, dumbbell, or kettlebell. https://lnkd.in/eQn7at5R

  • NEW BLOG POST! Back Pain Part 1: A Little ~Natural~ History Back pain: over 600 MILLION (yes, MILLION) people suffer from it. Check out this video Dr. Hannah put together talking about the prevalence of back pain and the societal shifts that need to occur in our beliefs and actions surrounding it. A common narrative surrounding back pain perpetuates troubling stigmas, with individuals often perceiving their backs as fragile or injured. Consequently, any associated back pain is interpreted as evidence of tissue damage, which is not always the case. The solution and shift we encourage here at Made 2 Move? Empowering people, through movement- towards stronger, more capable, and more resilient backs. The above video started with dedicating just a few minutes everyday to moving our spines. NOW what if those movements have become tolerable and are going smoothly? How can we begin to load and strengthen the back?
