Play ball! ⚾ Yesterday afternoon, Maine Community Foundation had a fantastic time rooting for our home team, the Portland Sea Dogs, at their Lewiston/Auburn Community Night game. Former MaineCF board member Martha Dumont, community partner Katie Howard, senior community partner Gloria Aponte C., vice president of donor engagement Becka Yturregui and board member Lili Pew enjoyed a great game of baseball: congratulations to the Sea Dogs on their victory! Before the first pitch was thrown, Becka shared a few words thanking the community for their support of MaineCF's Lewiston-Auburn Area Response Fund. The fund closed on February 20 with more than 5,241 contributions from around the world totaling $6.6 million. 100% of contributions were distributed to those impacted by last October's tragedy and organizations supporting the community recovery. During the game, the team wore special jerseys based on the original State of Maine flag. The back of the jersey had “Lewiston Strong” on the nameplate, and the front had a heart over Lewiston. The team auctioned off jerseys and sold replica jerseys to benefit MaineCF's Androscoggin County Fund, which provides ongoing support for the Lewiston and Auburn communities. Thank you to the Sea Dogs and our extraordinary community for making yesterday's Maine Strong game a home run! #maine #mainecf #mainecommunityfoundation #baseball #sports #portland #portlandmaine #lewiston #lewistonmaine #seadogs #portlandseadogs #portlandbaseball #mainestrong #lewistonstrong

Thank you to Brian Bernatchez, managing director and chief investment officer at Golden Pond Wealth Management and Maine Community Foundation board member, for sharing this estate planning guidance for adults in their 40s and 50s. Estate planning is especially important for members of this generation who may be making their own financial plans while assisting family members.
For people in their 40s and 50s, caring for their children as well as their parents, mapping out a financial future can be especially necessary. And challenging. https://ow.ly/HhhY50SEr5G

Earlier today, Maine Community Foundation president and CEO Deborah Ellwood (center) visited Machias with members of Maine's Infrastructure Rebuilding and Resilience Commission. The commission evaluates climate impacts and identifies areas of short- and long-term response to recent storms. During today's site visit, commission members learned more about the work Machias and the local community are doing to address their infrastructure challenges after the storms earlier in the year. Deborah is pictured with Linda Nelson, Stonington Economic and Community Development Director and co-chair of the Infrastructure Rebuilding and Resilience Commission, and Charlie Colgan, Center for the Blue Economy, Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey and Professor Emeritus, University of Southern Maine. The influences of a changing climate impact all Mainers.
