These grants are intended to support arts programs and organizations that increase access to arts education in Maine or support public engagement in Maine arts programs, or both! Maine Community Foundation is currently accepting grant proposals for the Edward H. Daveis Benevolent Fund, which supports early childhood and youth engagement programs in Greater Portland. Proposals are due September 16. The fund recognizes the critical roles parents and early childhood education providers play to ensure a child’s readiness to enter school and the importance of youth leadership programs that help develop aspirations and abilities of youth. Every year, millions of Americans who care deeply about their communities are written off as "unlikely voters." They are disproportionately young, low-income, and people of color. But nonprofits can help re-engage them. Brian Miller, executive director of Nonprofit VOTE, and Matthew L. Evans, senior director of public policy at United Philanthropy Forum, share how nonprofits can help more Americans participate in voting through nonpartisan voter engagement.

As a former Senior Program Associate for the John T. Gorman Foundation, Sara Gagné-Holmes did incredible work for Maine children and families. Maine is fortunate to have someone as talented and thoughtful as Sara nominated for this important role. 

With the ongoing legal challenge to the Fearless Fund’s grantmaking supporting women entrepreneurs of color, United Philanthropy Forum and ABFE. A Philanthropic Partnership for Black Communities, in close partnership with HIP, AAPIP, and NAP, are hosting a comprehensive briefing to help PSOs organize sector collaboration aimed at supporting equitable grantmaking practices and broader racial equity and justice work. The briefing, Fearless Fund Next Steps: PSOs, Advocacy, & Action, will take place Monday, July 8th, 2-3 pm ET, and provide a foundation for a critical ongoing conversation to be continued at the Forum’s conference.
