How can you maximize your #oring’s shelf life? As your friendly neighborhood o-ring experts, we’ve got you covered! 👉 Do not store o-rings hanging. O-rings should not be stretched or tense while being stored. 👉 Similarly, o-rings should not be compressed or deformed while being stored. 👉 O-rings should be kept in a dry environment free of contamination and under 25°C (77°F) and 75% humidity. 👉 Protect your stored o-rings from direct sun, artificial lights, UV, or other radiation. 👉 Lastly, protect your o-rings from ozone, including that generated by some electrical devices. What do you do when you have a failing pressure vessel o-ring? A large military tech company was experiencing just that when they came to us. The OEM o-ring was extruding from the groove, resulting in a short seal life and catastrophic failure during use. Our engineering team jumped into the problem and quickly found that the groove dimensions and inconsistencies were making the seal more vulnerable to extrusion and damage during assembly. We made groove modification recommendations and suggested a change in o-ring size to compensate for the increased pressure load. Our proposed solution functioned perfectly within assembly and testing conditions.
